The 50% clause only applies to any profit they make apparently.
Seriously? That is a completely pointless clause then.
How is that pointless? Barca are on the hook to pay Arsenal 35m and let's say he's a bust for them and they want to get rid of. So then they sell him for 30m. Why should Arsenal get half of that when Barca aren't even making their money back. The point of sell-on clauses like that is the selling club feels like they aren't getting true value for the player at the time of sale and he could develop into something more valuable and if the buying team turns around and sells him for a massive profit it makes you look like chumps. If Barca turned around and sold him to PSG for 50m then Arsenal getting an additional 10m means they got 45m for Cesc. Barca gets a 5m profit after receiving their 40m.
These clauses are for successes, not players who didn't work out. No buying team would ever go for some nonsense like that. First you pay 35m and the player doesn't work out and then you have to give half of whatever you can recover in a sale. Where is the logic in that.
