Barcelona reject Alex Song could make Arsenal return

ALEX SONG may be set for a shock transfer back to Arsenal this summer after struggling to make an impact at Barcelona.

The Cameroon international left the Gunners in August last year for the Catalan outfit in a £15m deal, but has been on the fringes of Tito Villanova's squad this season.

Assistant manager Jordi Roura has not given Song much of a look in either since he took control when Villanova headed to New York for cancer treatment, with the 25-year-old making just three appearances since the turn of the year.

According to reports in Spain, Song could be ready to call time on his short stint at the Nou Camp and seek a summer transfer, with Arsene Wenger considering a bid for his former midfielder.

If he's available, take him, but still bring in another midfielder.
You can completely change the way we set up. Bring in Alex Song as your central midfielder, and still bring in another La Liga guy, Camacho, as your deepest midfielder. Song is actually a highly underrated two-way midfielder.

I give this a likelihood rating of -10/10

Wenger has very strong pride. Capi is right

I'd love to have him back.

We should have never sold him in the first place though.

Nobody is remotely surprised he has failed to break into a far superior team than ours.
Another clear case of the hlebs without the icecream sweetener.

Exactly whats missing from our midfield. If Wenger doesn't like it then I have a simple solution for that.

Actually this would be a much better Vermaelen swap than Villa.

Really? Then why is the team filled with so much dross.

😆 Pride comes before a fall.

Ok, this won't happen, but Song played a bajillion minutes for us last season in a midfield that functioned better than this season's and his qualities have not been adequately replaced.

Would be a doubly good player to re-sign now that he's been burned by the reality of midfield competition at Barcelona—might never want to aim higher than us again.

Of course not. I doubt any of our current midfielders would've had more than 16 appearances given the players Barca have.

Fuck knows why we ever sold him.

We sold him because Wenger banked on Diaby being injury free.

That can't be the only reason. At the time there were rumours that Song was being a bit of a dick but even so, we should have kept hold of him. I bet even Barcelona were surprised they got him so easily.

The rumors IIRC was that Song despite having 3 years left on his contract wanted to sit down with the club to renegotiate his deal. Nothing wrong there, Arteta came out and said the same at the end of last season. Perhaps Song was bringing it up more, what do I know? Still think the major reason was that Wenger banked on Diaby being fit. When Song then wanted to join Barcelona Wenger didn't really seem too keen on keeping him.

There was a lot of cruft about Song lacking application in training remember?

Personally I think it was a combination of all of the rumoured factors. Song's agent pushing his luck, Song getting cocky, Wenger having his usual desire to sell and feeling he had alternatives, and Wenger not being able to handle difficulties with his players beyond a certain point.

Conclusions: Wenger's judgement was off when he decided he had plausible alternatives, and he has shortcomings as a man manager. Song's a bit of a twat.

Wenger banked on Diaby once Song was gone which is why we didn't get a replacement. He didn't sell Song because he banked on Diaby.
