We got Nachos!

I'm encouraged by the fact that Kieran Gibbs is not our long-term LB solution. Monreal is a good player, and given how we play (probably how every team plays), top quality fullbacks are important.

We have plenty of other problems that we haven't fixed, and we have, on the whole, probably failed to do enough to finish 4th, but I'm happy with the Monreal deal.

Oh, and from what I gather, we signed him early because other teams were looking at him, not because of Gibbs' injury.

Hope we keep Santos, and move him to midfield.

Sounds about right. We still need a top quality RB, but happy enough that LB will be settled for a few years now.

Even in a Monreal video, Isco impressed me 😆

Gibbs now could be out for 8 weeks. Funny how that worked out. If he didn't sign anyone, he would've kept saying 2-3 weeks every 2-3 weeks as usual.

more i think about it about it, this was probably a needed signing.. This team heavily relies on our full backs to provide width & get up & down the flanks, without it our combination play suffers alot & things become way to congested. From what i have read Nachos can provide that... Gibbs has been one of our most importnat players this season and with injury record its a big risk not having 2 players who can perform that task.. Santos is too fat & shit to provide that kind of wing support (need to get rid asap)..

from what little i've seen of monreal, he is a technically gifted and tactically smart player. he'll keep the ball moving, provide width and defend well. exactly what we need from our full backs.

Sure he will. We had no chance of finishing in the top 4 with Santos at left back, now we have a chance. I'm happy with that.

Irrelevant as there are others in the squad who would be fine to deputise.

With Gibbs out for at least 6 weeks, and thats an Arsenal 6 weeks, who do you think would have been ok as deputy Don? Santos has been an utter liability. Even with a centre half there we've seen the 3 capable ones don't tend to all stay fit for 6 weeks at a time. So then you're talking about Coquelin or Meade.

Monreal is a first team signing, not just cover for Gibbs. It strengthens us in both first choice and back up left back.

Thats a pity, Capoue would have been a nice signing.
