I'm glad Wenger made at least one January capture - raises the stakes slightly for us.

Looks like he's worked out that a month or two of Santos in the first team is probably the kiss of death for fourth place.

If Nacho's as good defensively as has been reported it will also take some of that burden from Podolski, freeing up his energy to be more destructive and potent going forward

Decent signing, don't know anything about the guy but people who follow Spanish football say he is a good solid player so am looking forward to seeing him play. Shame he is CL cup tied but with Santos being so poor the league is the priority. He looked alright up until he did his ankle in 2011, since then has be looked hopelessly out of form and out of fitness. He gets beat with ease so good we have looked to rectify that

Will give Gibbs good competition and hopefully will help make him a better player.

Being reported as a £8.5mill signing. He is a very well established player so will provide us much needed depth as a fullback.

Guess Don is including Santos's €7m estimated fee in that £14m, which is almost fair enough.

Should also possibly deduct Clichy's fee but hey, let's not be picky.

I'm somewhat encouraged by the fact that this signing was already agreed for next summer.

With Santos like I said last season he looked a handy player but now he seems to have lost his legs, think he can still offer something in attack, offers very little I'm defence though.

That's guesswork though really, largely based on the fact that he's been learning English. If we wanted him, why not buy him last summer?

It's not guesswork on my part, I'm basing it on a naive faith in the various outlets - eg Clrnc's ESPN blog post and the Grauniad - reporting it as fact. Seems plausible that something of the sort was on the table though.

It's quite probably over the top to say it was already agreed.

monreal is a good player. santos or vermaelen at lb for the next month would have killed us. with gibbs' injury a new lb had to be brought in. simple as that. even wenger knew that.

Sure he will. We had no chance of finishing in the top 4 with Santos at left back, now we have a chance. I'm happy with that.
