Born in Malmö, but spent most of my days there living in a small place. Moved back to Malmö at 18 and then moved to Stockholm at 20.

Went to högstadiet in Sjöbo though... Scarred me for life.

I'm not too fond of that place either to tell you the truth. It's probably just prejudice but the further down you get the more difficult it gets to relate to people (same goes in the other direction to be fair: anyone above Gothenburg might as well live in another country). Malmö is my cutoff point. Generally I stick to Helsingborg, Lund and Ängelholm with the occasional trip to Copenhagen or Helsingør. In several ways I feel a lot more at home in Denmark than I did in Stockholm.

I can understand what you mean about the Denmark thing, but I feel the atmosphere there has changed for the worse in the last decade or so as well. Colder. 🙁

My half brother lives in Sjöbo. I can´t bring myself to go there despite that. 🙂

Hey I known exactly what you guys mean, the people from north Swedland are all like this- whereas someone from south Swedland is all like that.

I watched Time Guardian last night. Found a dvdrip on this thing called the Internets (bless it!). What a great film. I had it on VHS when I was younger. I must've watched that one and The Waith at least twice a month for several years.

Saw the old film Contempt (Godard 1963) and Nicholas Winding Refn's Valhalla Rising on Friday night.

The first was a bit of a disappointment—not up to the standard of Godard's Jean-Pierre Léaud vehicles like La Chinoise and Masculin/Feminin. Brigitte Bardot is utterly stunning in it though.

The second was an ambitious total failure. Really was a bad, bad film. Just silly. The religious themes were crude, the violence pointless, the cinematography leaden, repetitive and full of faux profundity. The only interesting thing about it was that it really was directed without a modern context, as if from the viewpoint of a medieval human. Disaster all around despite that.

Truly though it's not in the same class as Bronson or Drive. It's just a bad film, not an interesting film to argue over.

I notice there are a few people online declaring it an existentialist masterpiece, talk about setting the bar low. You could've filmed a madman sitting on a bed for two hours and reached further into the meaning of life. 🙂

Haven't seen his other work yet, but I'll be checking out Pusher at some point.

😆 I agree, it's a complete wash. It's films like Valhalla Rising that makes me question whether we're reading too much into his filmmaking. I agree that it's much worse than the rest of his stuff though so in fairness it's probably the exception rather than the rule. Something doesn't sit right with me though. I've heard a few Danish interviews with him and he feels like the kind of guy I'd like to punch in the face. He comes across as some kind of weird mix between a hipster and a low-scoring academic. Doesn't quite pull off that arrogance as well as von Trier does.

Pusher is outstanding. You have to see it. It's his only great film in my opinion, but it's truly excellent. Depressing but excellent. One of the best films about drugs I've seen.

Yeah, he does look like a bit of a dweeb, but if we judged film-makers on appearance we'd be in trouble 🙂

I'll be checking out Pusher anyway.

I was a big fan of the book, though I think Ghostwritten's even better. But it should be a big, and unavoidably literate, film event. The involvement of the Wachowskis suggests it won't be short on spectacle, and the way the book is structures means that Tom Hanks won't be involved for more than 20 minutes, and so might not ruin it.

Avengers made $200m this weekend in N America, far and away the biggest opening in nominal dollars. Deserves it too. For a mass market movie, it's exceptional.

Will anyone who is over 20 want to see a third Men In Black movie?

Has anyone seen The Divide? Hell that was a weird movie. Why didn't the one without a finger tell them at the start there was a way how to get out of that hole throught the shit so those who didn't believe and didn't want to stay could just go?

And while I'm here, is Untouchable really that good? Haven't seen it yet but the ratings suggest it's a top one.
