Saw The Hunger Games last night.

Aside from the soundtrack, the central performances from Lawrence and Hutcherson, and the beautiful woods, it was a total stinker. And about 45 minutes too long.

Not impressed either. For all the "Oh-it's-nothing-like-Battle-Royale" voices it was kinda similar to Battle Royale too on some level, but much less interesting from an emotional perspective. I'm pretty sure Collins ripped off the premise from Takami even though the stories themselves are very different. I don't think it's a big problem but she should have had the sand to admit where the idea came from.

Check out the trailer to 'Journey to planet X' which is showing at the Tribeca festival next week. Troy Bernier is a relative.

Just watched The Kill List.
Grim, grey and morose throughout, awful ending.
There was an idea for a good film in there but it got completely lost with about twenty minutes to go.
It wasn't truly creepy or scary, just horribly violent in parts.

I liked the Conan remake more, I'm telling ya.

They should've put young Conan from the remake in The Hunger Games, would've easily cut off that 45 minutes I was whinging about. 😃

just watched Contraband.. was decent enough, but i've seen better from Wahlberg.. solid 6/10 with a somewhat unbelievable last 10 minutes (as in not believable)

Wheeled my Nan out from the nursing home to see Best Exotic Marigold Hotel this afternoon. I'd describe it as a Love Actually … for the over-70s, ie a bit shit. However, it was a pretty perfect grandmother date film.

Gawd almighty The Hunger Games was bloody awful. Piss-poor attempt at making a film, whole thing looked like it was shot on auto-exposure, not to mention miserable production design. Thought it would have at least been more entertaining. I like the Conan re-make better and I haven't even seen it.

@[deleted] Maggie Smith plays a laughably racist ex-housekeeper whose hate transforms as she develops an unconvincing maternal bond with an untouchable before revealing herself to have … oh never mind. I wouldn't bother 🙂

Watched a few films over the last few days, the best of which was the Al Pacino documentary about William Shakespeare's Richard III, Looking for Richard.

Also enjoyed One Day- despite Anne Hathaway's bizarre accent she is very good, although I found myself much more sympathetic to Rafe Spall's character than Jim Sturgess' "Dexter". I'm not sure, having read the book, that was supposed to be the case.

Also watched The Adjustment Bureau, which was better then I was expecting but was a little bit silly.

I rewatched The Tree of Life earlier today. The part that shows the creation of the Universe is cinematic perfection.

Its better than True Blood but its very teen agey. The second series is brilliant cos it just flys through a load of mental story at a thunderous pace but you need to get through about 12 dodgy episodes at the start before gets good and its not exactly the Wire so its a bit of a commitment for whats basically some frothy fun.
