I had no problem with the slow pacing in Drive. Like Burnsy said, it was made that way for a reason. I had other issues with it though but we've discussed those already.

Surprisingly he's not. He never really caught on back home for some reason, at least not among people who grew up in the nineties. Apart from Max von Sydow he's probably been the most successful Swede in Hollywood since the seventies or so but his son is more famous at the moment.

😆 He's potential oscar material to be fair. He was pretty good in Melancholia and Generation Kill and he's the only good thing about True Blood these days. I don't think he'll get the right roles in Hollywood though. Then again he certainly won't get them at home either. Swedish film is an embarassment these days. To put it bluntly, he's a bit unlucky that he was born a Swede.

After three seasons, it's fair to conclude True Blood is utter shit, so being good in it's not much of a recommendation. He's definitely the most interesting thing in it though.

I didn't like Melancholia much. Thought it was a major failure.

Agree on both points. I've never been a fan of von Trier though. Europa is his best pic by far and he made it over two decades ago. Actually Dogville is a clever film too. I like how it's mimicking the style of Yuri Lyubimov. I personally never liked Breaking the Waves but I can understand why some people would take a shine to it. The rest of his repertoire is questionable at best though.

My girlfriend adores him, and thinks Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark are masterpieces. I thought the former packed a punch and the latter was, yes, sad, but also fairly irritating. But even she didn't think Melancholia was much chop—as for me, I couldn't work out why I supposed to give a shit about those people?

Turning True Blood's only really worthwhile character into a wussy, Twilight-esque teenage girl's fantasy for the whole of season 4 was particularly inspired.

I liked Russell but the sissies sealed him in concrete. I hope he comes back and kills everyone next season.

Right, I haven't watched season four and don't plan to. It really did lose the plot completely in season two.

Reminds me I have to finish downloading The Shield.

Always loved Idioterne, though. And despite myself, I thought The Boss of it All was pretty damn funny.

I see there's a fair bit of stuff on YouTube - might check some of it out. 🙂

Burnsy - on the opposite side of the spectrum (from TC's structuralist formalism) there's some Kuchar lurking about on YT as well.

If structuralism is more your thing, there's always Martin Arnold ( and Peter Kubelka's got stuff floating around, too.
