I rewatched Streets of Fire last week. It's one of those perfect films in my world. Walter Hill is such a genius. Diane Lane's character in that film was my first movie star crush:

absolutely loved Streets of Fire. so strange, but surprisingly entertaining. havent seen it in years, but one of my favorite soundtracks ever (between I Can Dream About You and Tonight is What it Means to be Young).. Michael Pare's best movie outside of Eddie & the Cruisers... and Willem Dafoe as the greaser punk gangster psycho was just outstanding.. lol

Just saw War of the Titans. Not sure how Liam Neeson gets mixed up in something so atrocious, from the acting to the script to the special effects. Only worthwhile aspect of this disaster was Rosamund Pike's radiant eyes.

watched Leap Year tonight (RomCom).. cute.. i like Amy Adams.. but just average really... 5.5/10

@[deleted] Isn't it Wrath of the Titans, or have they made a third one already? Haven't seen any of them so I'm not au fait with the state of the lameness. Look awful though.

Sick of films "inspired by Greek myth" made by people who seem not to have bothered with Homer and Hesiod. Hello makers of Troy, Immortals, Clash/Wrath of the Titans etc.

These films would be more interesting (and still be packed with sex, violence and SFX) if they just followed the source material with a bit more respect.

Aye, they have to stop attempting to half inch 300 into every bloody 'mythological' movie they make. That film worked on a very basic level, it had polish and a gimmick; these new entries can't even get that right.

300 was a pretty decent film IMO, why I didn't include it.

Exciting and visually sumptuous, the only part that really pissed me off was the stupid "leper plot". Loved the side-on 2D action shots ripped frame by frame (or so I hear - I haven't read it) out of the original comic.

Was talking to some work colleagues about Drive at the pub on Friday, they were agreeing with one another that it was "too slow" ... was a bit gobsmacked to be honest. Massive attention span issues. Seems relatively action-packed to me.

Yeah, 300 was enjoyable although it doesn't stand up to further viewings in my opinion.

Have to say, wasn't a huge fan of Drive and I can see why they thought it was 'slow'. Early portion is very much a 'slice of life' project, a bit like Lost in Translation which is another film many people don't 'get'.

I liked it in the movies years ago. It's funny. Wait, this is the film about the death match reality TV show right? It's a bit like a Christopher Guest mockumentary in style.

Haven't seen it but remember the furore it caused upon it's release. That and Battle Royale released here at the same time, if I remember correctly, and the bastions of morality that are the mail and sun had a field day.

Funny you guys mention 300. I actually went home and started watching it in bed to cleanse my eyes after the horror that was Wrath. It belongs in the same dustbin as Prince of Persia

I didn't 'get' Lost in Translation, Cap. Thought Drive was quite good. Can also see why Burnsy's friends found it slow. Nothing much happens in the first half.

Don't get me wrong Ron, I didn't like Lost in translation at all.

Dramatically, Drive needs to pace itself from the outset to give an impact to the subsequent disruption of the hipster romance schtick by the video game violence of the protagonist.

Although it does open with an armed robbery counting down to a five minute car chase ...

Anyway, I liked Lost in Translation as well.

Didn't sit well with me although there are elements I enjoyed. Don't much like Johansson either.

Another mainstream one I have no time for is Babel, which I found mind numblingly dull.

Babel really was shit. Sanctimonious, pointless. File under Crash.

But in my opinion it wasn't like Lost in Translation. 'Somewhere', Sofia Coppola's recent film, was another tilt in the same direction - quite liked that too.

That having been said, the one thing that ultimately does begin to shit me about Sofia Coppola's movies is that she just can't get away from her own ultra-rich background.
