Just watched 50/50 with the missus. Very good effort on a difficult topic and well worth a watch.

50/50 was a good film.. really like JGL.. he's grown into a pretty decent actor.. thought Seth Rogen was pretty good too, and i havent really liked him since Freaks & Geeks

Absolutely no where round me was showing 50/50 during release. I'm a bit of a fan of Mr Gordon-Levitt. 500 Days of Summer is a massive guilty pleasure of mine.

Is it about the Rampart police corruption scandal? That's the incident they based The Shield on too.

Yeah, it is about that, I guess, though I haven't seen the Shield and don't know anything about the scandal.

It's about a corrupt cop who gets in trouble and subsequently believes he's been fitted up as a scapegoat to distract the media from the Rampart scandal.

I saw The Kid With a Bike (Le gamin au vélo) last night. Superbly simple, incident-packed film that successfully tricked me into caring a lot about the fortunes of a small, unfortunate boy on a French housing estate. Only criticism would be that there wasn't a single carefully constructed, beautiful shot in the whole film - the rest was modest perfection.

I was unpacking some boxes today which have been lying around my parents house for months. I had forgotten what was in them. Just unbelievable stuff:

I would honestly use an infant as shield to prevent a bullet from hitting that pile of DVD:s. Wouldn't hesitate for even a second. Going to rewatch them all next week, starting from the top and working my way down.

Classic japanese robosploitation. It's about an evil cyborg who, as the title suggests, kills people in the basement of a disco club. It used to be part of a super soldier project that the japanese army ran but it got buried during the bombings of Tokyo in WW2 and now it's awoken and is on a quest for vengeance against humanity. Or something along those lines. The subtitling is pretty bad to be honest, but it's not like the film is very heavy on plot. I like it. Not quite up there with Tetsuo: The Body Hammer but it's close.

Millers Crossing looks a bit out of place, I don't think I've even heard of any of the others. 😆

You'd be in heaven in my sister's boyfriend's house Klaus. He has a room dedicated to films like that. Stacked to the roof it is.

Don't diss Frankenfish. 😆 It's so underrated. Terribly entertaining film. It has a scene where a houseboat (sort of) shoots a person in the face.

No, not at all. 🙂 There are a few exploatation films and comedies in there but there are some genuine masterpieces too. Dellamorte Dellamore is one of the finest Italian accomplishments of the nineties. Think it was directed by Dario Argento's adept Michelle Suavi as a farewell to the horror genre. It has Rupert Everett in the performance of his life. Exiled and Fulltime Killer are probably Johnnie To's two best films and The Bird People in China is simply breathtaking.

And then there's Tears of the Black Tiger, one of the most visually stunning films ever made:

It is! Didn't think anyone would recognise it. I love that film.

And I didn't think anyone outside of Cork would have seen that film!

It's a masterpiece! I'm a big fan of both Cilian and Kirsten Sheridan. Of most people who were involved in the film, really. Heck, I even watched all thirteen episodes of the bullshit that was Harper's Island just because Elaine Cassidy played the main character.

The film was based on a play originally produced by our local theatre company Corcadorca. It had a big cult following here.
They do a signature production every year for the Midsummer festival in June - usually absolutely outstanding.

I think I've read something about it on Wikipedia in the past. The guy who wrote Disco Pigs also wrote Hunger a few years back, right? I think that's where I really noticed Michael Fassbender for the first time.
