That Spiderman re-boot looks terrible. Do we really need to see Spidermans origin story again? The trailer makes it look like they just decided they wanted to do the learning to swing through the city in 3D and made a movie out of it.

The word reboot in relation to films is shitting me off - in this thread as in life. Idiotic term.

If you must reboot anything, let it be an electronic device with an operating system. Using this pseudoverb as a metaphor when it barely rates as a word to begin with is a fucking violation of my left hemispheric cortex.

What makes me laugh is how they make each reboot "darker and grittier", assuming that automatically makes it better. it works for certain franchises like batman, but the spiderman trailer went for the dark tone and it just feels like it's trying too hard.

watched Crazy Stupid Love.. was good, especially as a "watch with the missus who loves Ryan Gosling" sort of way.. (and he actually SPEAKS in this movie instead of quietly brooding)

Yeah, but at least anatomists and neurologists have an excuse. They use all their brainpower on science and medicine, and have nothing left for class and good taste.

Never. I wouldn't write about Spiderman even if I got paid to do it, though. I gave up on the people who catch comic book adaptations when Ang Lee's version of Hulk got panned by fans and critics alike.

True, the Ang Lee Hulk actually wasn't bad at all compared to the run of superhero films - though the screenplay did have a silly, contrived ending - and yet it's still being unfairly maligned simply because it doesn't belong to the magical Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity.

How was Ang Lee to know that all he needed was one scene with the Hulk saying "Hulk smash" to be guaranteed a box office hit?

LOL. I actually had forgotten about that movie. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Final scenes were a bit mental, but the story made sense and was intriguing. The Ed Norton Hulk movie wasn't a superhero flick. It was a disaster movie.

I've read the book but didn't like it. It's something with Palahniuk's style that puts me off. I get this urge to punch him in the face every time I read something he has written, and it's increasing throughout the book. I liked the idea of the story though so I should probably have seen the film. Angelica Huston plays the mother, right?

I just watched The Mill and the Cross. I honestly can't think of a single film I've seen this year that was better. Such hauntingly beautiful imagery. I've never seen anything like it before. This is what Werner Herzog is referring to when he says that we need to find new images unless we want to perish like the dinosaurs did. New ways to explore the visual space. Majewski literally brings Bruegel's painting to life. Oh, and Rutger Hauer chips in with a once-in-a-lifetime performance. You seriously need to watch this, people.

Speaking of Herzog, girlfriend just made me watch Aguirre: Der Zorn Gottes, Klaus - seem to recall that's one of your favourites? Excellent film.

Re Palahniuk, I always recommend the haters read his novel Diary, which is a bit outside the Fight Club / Choke / Survivor slot that does get a little tedious. I'm not a rusted on fan but I do like the guy. Rant is also good.
