Over the last week, in addition to Drive, I have watched the following:
127 Hours- had a Twitter debate with Asa about this film. Personally, I thought James Franco was superb and probably should have won the Best Actor Oscar. Not to say that it should have won the Best Picture Oscar (True Grit, for me), but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sex And Drugs And Rock N' Roll- Was a massive Ian Dury fan as a kid, well, I loved Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, so was looking forward to this. Funny film and more about the man than his music. Made me quite sad though, realising that, though he had his reasons, Dury was a bit of a twat. I think I also felt sad because it made me think about my non relationship with my dad. Funny to see an on screen depiction of his son Baxter at a time when I'm loving Baxter's latest album.
And.... Paul. So, so disappointing. Probably just about qualifies under Mark Kermode's "six laughs" rule, but- knowing what fans of the sci-fi genre Pegg and Frost are, this felt like a massive missed opportunity. Should have been much funnier.
