Saw Star Wars last night.
The saga is indeed at war with itself, but I appreciate that honesty. The alternative was to pretend the previous film was salvageable and I'm not sure it was.
I'm not even a big Star Wars fan, but walking out of The Last Jedi my thinking was: "How could you possibly provide an adequate ending to this trilogy after screwing up so badly with this film?"
I understood this latest film as an attempt to correct that mistake, and while this necessarily makes it a relatively terrible film, it also made it a lot more enjoyable for me.
Knowing that the film stopped taking itself seriously made it the only Star Wars movie I enjoyed of this latest trilogy, even.
