I saw "Thor" last night. Although it wasn't completely awful, I couldn't recommend it in all honesty. The last forty minutes or so are really predictable and the humour's at a pretty low level throughout.

Also, I wouldn't mind if I never saw Anthony Hopkins in another film. He's really lost his edge, and he used to be such an enjoyable actor as well.

Just seen a trailer for the new Transformers. 100 minutes of brainless fun coming up. Get in!

Read Michael Bay's comments on the second one and hoping he has done a much better job with this one.

Transformers 2 wasn't even fun.

cant be any worse than the second one.. trailers look better already

Bay more or less said that two was an awful movie; the script was crap because they rushed to get it finished before the writer's strike and as a director he dropped the ball badly.

well, at least he can admit his mistakes.. lol.. as crap as it was, it still made tons of money...

saw Arthur yesterday - great fun, russ brand is ace. Not as good as the original mind.

Recent viewing:

The 400 Blows: wonderful performance from Jean-Pierre Léaud 8/10
Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway: both re-watches, both great 8/10
Through a Glass Darkly: gutted at the end 9/10
Thor: pretty shit but some nice visual effects 5/10

Sunshine: 8/10

Thought it was great. Now one of my favourite sci-fi movies.

Watched 2 top movies this weekend:
The Bang Bang Club - follows four apartheid era photographers who go into the heart of riots and inter-ethnic clashes, taking pictures to tell the world about the day-to-day horrors of apartheid. Well acted, difficult to watch. It might be worth doing a quick read-up on the internet about apartheid and violence between Zulus and Xhosas before watching the movie, because the violence isn't really explained. It's a back-drop to the story about the 4 photographers.

Fast 5 - the best movie in a series that I am a big fan of. It's less of a drag-racing story and more of a hip Oceans 11, as Vin Diesel and his crew plan a daring robbery which results in some of the best car chase action scenes ever shot. There is also a foot chase in the favellas which is very intense. Will not disappoint anyone.

It's a beautiful film on a good HD tv too.

A really underrated movie, I thought.

Sunshine is brilliant. I saw it at the cinema, but it seems to have slipped under the radar somewhat. Probably because it's a sci-fi movie without an Alien or a Predator.

Sunshine's aces. Been meaning to get it on blu-ray for a while. Watched Taxi Driver and Catfish over the weekend. Not seen Taxi Driver for a while and its difficult to believe De Niro was ever better. Catfish was very good, I thought: a cautionary tale on the perils of meeting people online.

Watched The Fall the other day. Was mighty impressed. I've had a mancrush on Lee Pace ever since Wonderfalls.

Saw Rabbit Hole last night. Good performances including, surprisingly, from Nicole Kidman. Casting was a bit off though. Good mix of humour and handkerchief, only giving it a 7/10 because of mannered indie flavouring.

Watching Johnny Mnemonic right now. Keanu at his absolute wooden best!

Saw The King's Speech yesterday.
Fully expected to be bored but thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Thought Geoffrey Rush was fantastic. Unfortunately, you need to be the one playing the physiologically or psychologically-challenged character to be an Oscar favorite.
