2007 includes There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, Zodiac, Eastern Promises, Michael Clayton, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Don't even think there's much competition.

LA Confidential is elevated by the source material and a decent cast a lot of whom are doing their best work. Still wish one of the streaming services would do an Underworld USA TV series.

I rewatched it about a year ago. I never read the story but I think it's a complete joke of a film to be honest. Stellar example of when something's way past its expiration date.

I took a look myself. For some reason you failed to mention one of the only good modern college movies, American Pie, and the king of "so bad you enjoy it" movies, Deep Blue Sea. 🙂 In all seriousness though, The Sixth Sense was very good, and The Iron Giant is one of the best children's movies out there. I remember liking Toy Story 2 and Tarzan as well, but I was 8 at the time so.

From 2007 there are also movies I liked that none have mentioned. The obvious one is Ratatouille, that's one of Pixar's best. Knocked Up is Apatow's best, either that or 40-year-old Vigin at least. I'm still of the opinion that Hot Fuzz is the best movie in the Cornetto trilogy as well, but I know that most people disagree. I remember really liking Freedom Writers and 300 as well, but I can probably chalk it up to being young.

Why does it make you feel old, aren't you in your _mid 40s? Your Arsenal Mania account is probably older than half the posters there

I know he didn't direct it but if Superbad is considered an Apatow movie then it's clearly his best for me. I do agree about Hot Fuzz.

I only included movies directed by him, but if we're counting produced ones as well, I agree.

I did suspect 2007 would do well on here, and it's my favourite year of movies without doubt. Zodiac blew me away on both viewings and is one of my favourite movies ever. PTA and the Coens both made masterpieces. Beyond the big films there's some really good obscure stuff too. Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, King of Kong, I'm Not There, The Darjeeling Limited all movies I have plenty of time for.

I don't think the "guy films" were quite the same as you go further back, because the medium wasn't as exploitative and hollowed out full stop. Films like those of the Taken series (which I have quite enjoyed) are slickly awful.

Most of those 2007 films are incredibly overrated so 99.

i would agree with Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, that was a pretty decent movie.. however, i hated Darjeeling Limited. I really dislike most, if not all, Wes Anderson movies. I just dont like his style at all. (and for that matter, I dislike most of the Judd Apatow stuff outside of 40 Year Old Virgin).

i did like Zodiac though, was a very good movie.

Just watched a new Indonesian Netflix movie, The Night Comes for Us. It's an hyperviolent movie from Timo Tjahjanto who apparently worked with Gereth Evans on a segment of V/H/S 2. It's not as slick as the The Raid movies, but still very entertaining. The actors are obviously great at martial arts and some of them were in The Raid as well. Joe Taslim, Iko Uwais and Julie Estelle (Hammer Girl) were all in at least one of them. Fair warning: If a movie can be too violent, this one probably is. I've never had an issue with this, but it wore me out after a while. I actually don't remember having watched a more violent film. Also, the paper thin story is just an excuse for all the fight scenes to be tied somewhat together. Still, it's worth a watch only for the creativity of the fight choreography.

Yeah Night Comes for Us didn't do much for me. Julie Estelle reminded me of Monica Belucci though. A stabby Monica Belucci.

It was over the top, sloppy and some of the acting and writing was pretty bad, so I get where you're coming from. Still can't help but think the action scenes were much better than what you get when you go to the movies most times.

Been watching some movies lately. Equalizer 2 is.. Well, pretty much Equalizer again. Entertaining, but unsurprising. It doesn't have the same drastic drop in quality that for example Taken 2 had, but it's still worse than the first one, which I thought was good.

Outlaw King was okay, but nothing special. It looked cheap at times, and I didn't care about any of the characters other than Elizabeth. I also didn't think they managed to quite capture the rise of Bruce's rebellion.

Today I watched Apostle. Don't really know what to make of it. It's a gory, slow-burn, gothic folk horror or something, I guess. Dan Stevens is a very good actor and the movie itself looks great, except from the parts where I almost couldn't watch. I'm not sure if Gareth Evans is a good storyteller though. Maybe he should stick to martial arts flicks instead, because this was kind of all over the place.
