In prepartion for watching Infinity War next week, I defended to catch up on the 3 Marvel movies I’ve not seen. Watched two over the weekend.

Doctor Strange - actually a lot better than I anticipated, but only because I didn’t expect much.

Ragnarok - genuinely can’t remember if it’s my favourite of the Thor movies, but it was good regaledss. Just the right amount of everything.

I have to say, aside from one of the Iron Man movies and GotG2, I’ve enjoyed every single of these the Marvel films. Even those were watchable. Just good light entertainment.

I watched all of them in the last three months as well, Goon. Really good movies. The only ones I didn't enjoy were Iron Man 2 and 3, GotG 1/2. Otherwise, really good entertainment overall leading up to IW. On GotG, I don't think the first was a bad movie technically, we just didn't gel.

Watched Infinity War today, I have to say I thought it was really well done. Never felt like too much to me. Plot was good, dialogue between the characters was good and managed to avoid feeling like a giant gimmick. All in all, for a film that’s 2.5 hours long, it flew by. And I don’t care what anyone says, I love the GotG brand of humour.

Surprisingly the Mrs enjoyed it too despite it only being the second Marvel Movie she’s watched since Black Panther. The good news there is it gives me an excuse to watch a few of them again with her.

I thought the GOTG humour was much better in IW than in GOTG2. [spoiler]Pairing them up with Thor worked well after Ragnorok[/spoiler]

I liked the film but not as much as Civil War which I thought did a better job of balancing the massive cast of characters.

The end was [spoiler]really interesting. It was more like the end of a season of TV than a movie. It'd be an amazing end to the movie if there was no movie coming in the future to fix everything. As it is it was still pretty good.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]I think if they at least left another 2 year gap until the next Avengers film it would have had a similar impact, because you would still have had 5-6 Mavel films in this new environment. Instead you have just two, both involving characters on the fringes. Not sure how much those films will incorporate the wider universe (I don't think they'll fall in the current timeline) but either way it's not enough for you to really feel the loss for a little bit[/spoiler]

Anyway, while I agree that the deaths don't feel very consequential when you know there are sequels coming up, others will definitely die. The original Avengers were conveniently the ones who didn't turn to dust, and I reckon those who want out will die saving the dust guys. [/spoiler]

They did a good job of making the obvious impactful, in my opinion. Was genuinely surprised by some of the choices.

I saw the hugely acclaimed film Columbus last night, have to say I was disappointed.

It's a brilliantly acted, poignant, intriguing and serene film with a bedrock of emotion, but it's also a cowardly work hobbled by the constraints its director has selected. Haley Lu Richardson and John Cho are great though, so's Parker Posey who seems to get a gig in films like this these days.

Oh I nearly put that on last night before deciding to watch the remix of Arrested Development season 4 instead.

Yep season 5 is out in a few weeks. Need to do the season 4 rewatch soon

I was wondering what the remix is. Credit where it's due, not many show creators can acknowledge that their first attempt was so shit that they do it again.

Yep, its actually better this way so far. Its an ensemble comedy, focussing on one character at a time hurt it.

I had Transformers the last night on in the background and suddenly started watching it. What a load of garbage. I mean seriously, even for a money spinner it’s appauling. Anyone involved it it should be ashamed of themselves and never be allowed to work again.

Absolutely enjoyed Lady in the Water. Beautifully told and acted story. Like a fairytale for grown folk. You really understand the emotions and motivations of each of the core people in the tale, and it’s a moving, exquisitely shot film.

I'm looking forward to see this movie. You can't go wrong with Lars von Trier.
