Saw annihilation last week. Hated it.
Beautifully produced, but I was hoping all the horrible characters including Lena would die sooner so that it would be over. The ending was a slap in the face. Completely meaningless.
I found the whole thing such an enticing but ultimately monumental waste of my time that I picked up the book to see whether it was the source material I should be mad at...
Absolutely loved the book, however, and I plan on finishing the rest of the trilogy. What sets the book apart from the movie, in my opinion, is that the development of the main character (which is intelligent and insightful, rather than a soap opera clown) is so satisfying that at the end you can happily move on without further explanations, just like the biologist.
