Watched Infinity War. Impressions:

[Spoiler]overstuffed but it kind of knew it and leaned into it with an insane amount of energy and narrative thrust. The movie did feel like it was red-lining and stretching at the seams at times, and felt very much like part 1 of 2. Still enjoyed the heck out of it for the most part[/spoiler]

Avengers Infinity War is more like Thanos, the Movie. And I liked that about it. It could have easily been just another one-dimensional Big Bad (Dormamu, Ego, Dark Elf dude).

I would say no. Newcomers will appreciate the action but with no grounding on who these characters are it will just feel pointless and overcrowded

They had seen most of them except Captain America, The Winter Soldier, Dr. Strange and Ant-Man. Since those were mostly stand-alone I assume it'll be fine.

Exactly. I never understood the need to cram 99 million heroes into a 3 hour movie.

It's why I'm not actually looking forward to it that much. Unless it's incredibly skillfully done, I feel like there's far too many characters to get anything meaningful out of it.

That's why I am looking forward to it. The critics consensus from RT reads "Avengers: Infinity War ably juggles a dizzying array of MCU heroes in the fight against their gravest threat yet, and the result is a thrilling, emotionally resonant blockbuster that mostly realizes its gargantuan ambitions." I'm interested to see how they did that.

I think the whole project has been immensely ambitious and impressive, but only parts of it have been particularly successful.

I really loathe the Guardians films and I'm a bit sad I'm going to have to put up with the fucking Bradley Cooper raccoon in this thing when I go to see it on the weekend. But I'm encouraged to hear that a lot of effort has gone into the antagonist.

I loved the first Guardians when it came out, haven't watched it in years though. The second one is really bad. I didn't think so initially, but I like it less and less the more I think about it. The humor is so immature and badly written compared to Ragnarok.

I couldn't actually finish the second one, turned it off after about an hour. I could see they were trying to get at some of the flavour of planetary romance, but the characters and their interactions were so annoying. It was practically Star Wars prequel level.

The first one was watchable with a dull "learn to be a team" plotline, but it's the aesthetic sense I really find troubling. That whole subfranchise is just way too far into cartoon-land for me.

I hear after they wrap the Avengers they're going to phase into Fantastic Four (I'm sure some of the series veterans will be eager to give up their contracts for the most part by now).

Anybody caught A Quiet Place? Really interesting film, very fresh idea and I love how they manage to combine the family theme with horror.

The fact it didn't completely collapse is a testament to marvels excellent narrative and character logistics. I've been baffled with each passing movie thinking things would start to sag and feel like overkill, but it hasn't really happened for me. It's probably worth having your mate watch dr strange, he plays a pretty significant role in the movie

The visuals always irked me though. Really washed out and unnemorable alot of the time

Infinity War basically pulls a little trick in juggling the characters by turning almost all except maybe 2-3 protagonists into secondary characters. Even Captain America isn't spared the treatment. It really is a plain Thanos movie. Almost as if Thanos were the protagonist and there's a vast conspiracy out to get him.

Not really but the scenes in Wakanda lose some of their lustre since BP is where one of the major battlegrounds is introduced.
