Deadpool 2 was decent, but it seems like everyone else likes these movies better than me. Some of the jokes made me feel that the writer had a line that wouldn't quite make it to the final script, then just added a bunch of "fuck" and "dick" and came to the conclusion that the joke was now much better.

I preferred it to Deadpool 1.

Worth it for the scenes during the end credits alone.

Thought it was a bit limp.

The first one felt relatively fresh and transgressive. This felt like the formula of the first one. Oh yeah, and the dual Dead Wife Trope was a bit hard to take. "How are we going to motivate these guys? Hey let's just say everyone's wife has died."

Not saying it was bad, I laughed, and the kid from Hunt for the Wilderpeople was a nice addition.

And if you thought the Dead Wife trope was a bit hackneyed, surely the Damsel in Distress in the first movie was even more clichéd?

The modality was original for the first film. Both of them have almost no plot at all—this one's was thin af.

I liked Josh Brolin, suitably old and pissed off, could've been older and even more pissed off. Nick Nolte or Gary Busey could've been fun heh.

Just watched Revenge. I find it kind of creepy that there even is a rape-revenge genre (I honestly never knew until I read about this movie), but I saw that it had gotten good reviews so I wanted to give it a go. It's certainly exploitative, but luckily it gets to the revenge part pretty fast. Some of the gore is hard to watch, and I normally don't have such problems. It's ridiculously unrealistic, but the second action sequence was greeat. The cinematography was surprisingly beautiful as well, some great shots in there. The industry needs more female directors, and I will definitely keep an eye on Coralie Fargeat.

I'm interested to see that one Quincy, but I can't say in advance what I'll think of it at all. The rape revenge genre has attracted a huge amount of critical and theoretical discussion over the years, because of how fine a line it is between exploitation and empowerment of the woman protagonist.

Same sort of discussion you get with the "kickass heroine" school of films but the stakes are even higher when sexual violence is a plot hook.

DP2 was so-so. Decent fun I guess. My opinion of it is coloured by the treatment of Domino, who's my favourite X-Man from the comics. She certainly acts the part but she doesn't look the part. Was expecting a lot more leather, and didn't like the afro on her. Loved the way her powers were treated though.

In the beginning I thought it walked on the wrong side of that fine line, but as the movie progressed from that part very quickly I personally think it was okay. I can certainly understand that many might disagree, as it is a sensitive subject.

Solo wasn't particularly good, was bored big parts of the movie. I went during the most popular time slot the day after the premiere and there were 15 people in a theatre that holds 250. Says it all about how not anyone asked for a Solo origin movie.

There was also a reveal that made me confused about the timeline until I read about it, and more casual fans will be even more confused.
[spoiler]Qi'Ra talking to a man via hologram and it turns out it's Darth Maul. I figured the movie must be set before episode 1 since he died. Turns out the movie is set after episode 3 and the reveal is that he's still alive.[/spoiler]

Yeah, that was always my feeling about Solo. I imagined Woody and Glover would be great and Ehrenreich is okay but he's certainly no Harrison Ford. My main worry though was the fact that Disney hired Ron Howard to take over the film's directing duties. One of the least innovative and frankly one of the most boring directors in Hollywood.

Why they decided to release it in the middle of the summer a couple of weeks after Infinity War is baffling. Should have stuck with their Xmas slot and dominated the hype at that time of year.

I'm not going to bother watching solo. Not like Disney are hurting for cash, but having a star wars movie flop has to be cause for concern

The more i see these mediocre star wars, sony/fox, and DC movies bring churned out, the more my respect for fiege's work with the MCU increases. The guy gets it

Yeah I've lost interest for this one. Alden Ehrenreich is fine but he's no Harrison Ford, what's the point? The actor is the character in this case.

Ewan McGregor is practically begging for a Kenobi movie, so they should just make that one. It's the only spin off I'm interested in. They're talking about a Lando movie, which shows that hey're going in the completely wrong direction. If we're comparing with MCU they should expand on the lore with new obscure characters instead of telling us stories we don't want to hear about characters we're not interested in.

Rogue One was brilliant, but on the whole Disney have done as much damage to Star Wars as Lucas did with his ridiculous prequels.

What's worse is that every story coming out of Disney makes it perfectly clear that they aim to make the franchise into something that's comparable to the Marvel universe, and I'm just not interested in anything that steaming pile of shit has had to offer in the last ten years. I doubt I'll be interested in any future Star Wars projects either.

I don’t really get Star Wars in general to be honest. Every film, including the originals, feels like you’re jumping into the middle of a story, every story ends up being remarkably similar and yet pretty forgetful at the same time.

Anyway, watched Dunkirk finally. Thought it was brilliantly done, really does a good job in giving you some sort of sense of what it was like to be there in that situation.
