Just watched Split. Found it really enjoyable, weird that Shyamalan can have such huge differences in quality between his movies. One thing though
[spoiler]Should I watch Unbreakable in order to understand the ending? Is it important or just an easter egg?[/spoiler]

Pretty sure there's a third movie in the works, green lit since the success of Split, that will be Shyamalan's ensemble cast thing right?

Was decent enough. McAvoy is fantastic in this film and it had some very memorable scenes but the ending left me disappointed.

I can recommend seeing The Visit if you're into Shyamalan. Funny, annoying, scary and with a fantastic trademark twist.

Saw Dunkirk on IMAX recently. I'm not sure if it would have worked without it.
I'm very divided on this. On the one hand, it is so well produced and such an immersive experience. On the other hand, Nolan clearly cheats using a repertoire of tricks. Non-linear narrative to disguise a very basic plot. Pumping bass track to create a sense of urgency in a thoroughly sedate sequence. Unnecessary actions taken by characters just to enable a specific visual mark (burning Spitfire). It's all good if you don't spot it, but if you do notice it right off, you feel cheated.

Funny, but so far the new Star Wars movies have been good so I'm not complaining yet.

Facebook friend who's a critic described it as "the most daring film to come out of a major studio since Kubrick died" … it's definitely one to catch, by the sound of things.

IT remake is decent actually. Seeing it and remembering the original showed just how much Japanese horror has influenced Holywood.

Abrams to direct Star Wars Episode IX. I hope he was forced to play it safe with TFA and that this has changed for TLJ and IX.

i'm writing off this new star wars trilogy, and that han solo spin off. hopefully the kenobi stand-alone turns out to be decent

i really enjoyed IT. packed theatre with a group of mates is the best way to see it

Abrams will probably turn it into a decent, bland entertainment, that's pretty much what he does.

Very boring choice of a replacement director. My dream pick was George Miller.

This is what Disney want, a man to tow the line and do a solid job. Not an upstart or anyone with their own vision. The IP is the star, not the director.

To be honest Star Wars has never been about great directors. It's pulp. It's meant to be light and fun and inventive.

The real issue with all the prequels and sequels is that a tossed-off "planetary romance" plotline written in a fever dream by George Lucas doesn't really have the fictional scaffolding to support a dynasty saga and a galactic empire of self-consistent world building, ie what you need for a major "cinematic universe".

The new aliens and settings that have begun leaking for the upcoming Han Solo film sound like rubbish. They've been missing way more often than hitting adding to the "property" of the Star Wars universe since ROTJ came out the first time around.

There is too much money going into these blockbusters for directors to do anything super interesting so I'm happy enough for Star Wars to keep putting out solid entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed TFA and Rogue One so I'm happy for them to get a solid pick like JJ.
