Recommendations?
One thing I really enjoyed over the past year or so, that I think a lot of the OMITT crew would enjoy, was a trawl through most of Michael Mann's back catalogue as director.
He's an incredibly macho director, but also has a bunch of cool stylistic tics that become very engaging over the course of his career.
Thief, Manhunter, Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider, Collateral, the Miami Vice reboot thing, and the incredibly underrated Blackhat. Few more I haven't seen, but he's nearly always really rewarding viewing—great action, great shotmaking (or anti-shotmaking, almost, with some of his handheld work) plus meticulous characterisation and big emotional payoffs.
