GotG2 has a very novel plot, but struggled with its scripting. In trying to make room for the ensemble cast, some scenes were included which felt unnecessary, while others felt rushed through. Ultimately, despite its length the movie could have done with a bit more time explaining some character motivations. Among other things why Rocket suddenly felt Quill was in such danger, and why Nebula changed her mind so readily and why others were so willing to accept her. Even Ego's deal-breaker statement to Quill makes little sense - why would he say that so directly?
The jokes are definitely forced. Half of them run flat. The tone-deaf angle on Drax is overplayed. I don't think you're really supposed to cringe that much along with the characters. Fatherly Drax came along much better. The forced humour resulted in stilted, less than believable dialog, but the flow of the conversation wasn't that good anyway. A memorable dialog between Yondu and Rocket lost a lot of impact in its delivery. The hamminess is not restricted to the humour, with the ball-catching scene being especially cringeworthy.
However, all this is forgiven with the most rousing finale to a Marvel movie ever. Marvel movies have a habit of finishing on a damp note, but this show does not. It imparts a lot more emotion than you feel the show had the right to earn based on what went on previously. At this point the refreshing plot wins out and you come out of the movie happy enough with what you've seen.
