Just reading that Franco is set to play Kaneda in the live action Akira so it looks like a comlete re-imaginig. I think they will fumble it, but it's one of my most eagerly anticipated movies.

watched The Kids Are Alright tonight..

meh.. could have done without watching it.. average movie. cant believe its nominated for so much

also watched Animal Kingdom.. another meh movie.. dont see the big hooplah about it...

ok, having seen all the 10 nominated films except Toy Story 3 (doesnt belong there IMO), this is my ranking of the nominated movies:

The King's Speech
The Social Network
127 Hours
The Fighter
Inception
True Grit
Black Swan
Winter's Bone
The Kids Are All Right

Toy Story 3 (not seen, dont care)

Just had a look and I can't see who might be up as Tetsuo. That'll be an interesting casting choice.

I'd be more excited about it if The Book of Eli's director wasn't attached to the project ...

saw the firm today, was expecting and hoping for a more horrible watch. needed more violence

You talking about the old Gary Oldman film? Yes I agree it wasn't quite as horrific as you might expect - more sordid and pathetic.

Guarantee the finish is nothing like the original

It would be possibly the worst scene of all time if they tried to recreate it.

I imagine that the finished product will end up being a mix of theological mumbo jumbo and some decent action; basically The Matrix 4.

Like a fair bit of Japanese drama Akira always seemed to have a lot to do with Japan's WWII experience, especially Hiroshima. Wonder if they'll retain that feel.

Just watching district 9

how sweet is that alien weapon?! Lol

Really liked that movie.

Anyone recommend me something for tonight?

Capi try one from crank, go, get him to the greek, shavedcleanandonlyeighteen, American psycho, stir crazy, falling down, or shutter island

shavedcleanandonlyeighteen it is!

Has anyone seen "Paul" yet?
I quite like Simon Pegg but I've heard from an unreliable source that this is hilarious which makes me wonder if I'd find it funny.

I like Simon Pegg's films too (the man himself always comes accross as a pretentious knob), but Paul just looks like sold-out crap to me.

Will wait for the DVD.

Speaking of Simon Pegg, I saw Burke and Hare yesterday.

Wasn't much impressed, but it did make me think you could make a terrifically ghoulish drama (rather than comedy) about the real life Burke and Hare murders.

Nice to see Andy Serkis is still getting work too. He's not bad.

Is Simon Pegg real life that bad? Never seen him being interviewed.
Hmmm. "Paul" does look like it might have the potential to be rubbish, maybe not worth the trip to the cinema.

finally watched The Expendables this weekend.. was decent for what it was.. wasnt expecting too much from it, but i thought it was a solid watch.. great to see Ah-nald (cameo) and Dolph back in movies..

He just takes himself massively seriously, which seems odd considering how light-hearted his films & TV always seems to be. You kind of expect him to be a little like he is when he's acting, and he's really not.

Though it's not like I've met the bloke, I'm just going on a handful of interviews I've seen.

Didn't really like it US (of course since you mildly liked it, I'd have to mildly dislike it 😉 ) but Dolph was the best thing in it. Of course if you can say a film's best acting performance is by Dolph Lundgren you have problems ...

🙂 That's brilliantly bad for a Monday afternoon

The hair is bigger than the movies too

Brian Adams, Whitney, Celine Dion......I'm just wondering in what order I'd have them taken out permanently.

Just leave Whitney in a corner and she'll take care of herself.

Footloose is still the greatest single movie known to mankind.

... with the possible exception of Quicksilver:

If you can sit through the second clip you have a strong stomach 😆

Quicksilver really is a must see, probably the worst film ever in genre: Aspiring New York Whatever-du-Jour 😃

😆
That looks worse than Dirty Dancing and I know people who rate it as their favourite film ever.
That's frightening.

Pretty much. Aimed more towards an American market, and as a result they lose the quirkiness of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. It wasn't terrible, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

if it isnt Simon Pegg a la Shaun of the Dead, then its not worth watching.. SOTD is classic

and Burnsy - yeah, i know you have to dislike what i like (although, Expendables was, as you said, only mildly decent). i actually thought Jet Li was funny in it (always "for my family")..

and Quicksilver? seriously? wow.. thats an oldie but baddie

It's so weird seeing actors you know in films you've never heard of. Larry Fishburne? Wow!

Larry Fishburne's done LOADS of 80's / early 90's crap / b-movies.

Don't tell me you've never seen The Matrix, Tony?

I've seen that.

Probably the first movie i've seen him in. I've seen "What's love got to do with it" too.

He's been in some superb movies and some absolute dross.

Mystic River and Biker Boyz in the same year. :o
