Was really looking forward to seeing Killing Them Softly before it came out, then once it did I just never got around to it.

Watched Silver Linings Playbook. Already one of my favorite romantic comedies of all time. Unique in the genre in that you actually care about the characters. It also strikes the right balance of levity and seriousness. Well-acted throughout. Great to see De Niro back in a serious role.

I'm reading the book. Think I'll finish it before seeing the movie. It's good seeing positive reviews though.

Just watched 'A Separation' (foreign film - Oscar). Thought it was lovely. A bit indie-ish but I haven't seen such a concept that well executed. A nice watch if you like your moral compass being tested.

Early noise is suggesting that The Grandmaster is Wong Kar Wai's best film since the early nineties. Can't wait to see it.

Bit of a film binge lately. I've just seen The Hunt (Jagten) and it was truly excellent. Really good, harrowing and menacing thriller.

Guessing Klaus, Rex and Ivansen already know of it ... must have a profile in Sweden.

So dozens of award categories and 5 or 6 movies voted over and over again across them. How many movies do members of the Academy actually watch? Or are they the same group of people who fill FIFA World 11s with Barca and Madrid players?

Dunno about Oscar, but in my experience, a BAFTA member will have seen maybe 150-200 films throughout the year. Also, most of the categories are voted on by specialists rather than every member.

Reckon about half of the last ten Best Picture winners are genuinely good films.

The Artist, The Hurt Locker (maybe), Slumdog, No Country, and The Departed.

LotR:RotK - fun
King's Speech, Crash, Chicago - meh

I've never seen Million Dollar Baby all the way through - saw most of it on a plane and had to get off just before the accident apparently occurs, which I suspect takes away the point rather. Didn't like what I'd seen all that much though.

Was confused by the baton exchange part but that's probably just my stupidity and not supposed to be confusing to the general viewer.

I like these Asian dramas/thrillers/action movies. Really enjoyed the Infernal Affairs series and OldBoy. They have good plots and twists.

I really need to watch the sequels at some point. Have had part two for around a year now but not bothered as yet.

I thought it was a trilogy, but just had a look and it is just the two films. Clearly got it mixed up with infernal affairs (which could have done without the third film!).
