I thought Denzel was brilliant. The whole film lives and dies by his performance and I felt he nailed it.
Watched a good few screeners myself lately, Flight obviously, Lincoln which I already commented plus...
The Hobbit, ok but really is just an overly long first act of a story. Everyone is saying it dragged in the middle but I thought it was fine in the middle and dragged at the start.
This is 40 is absolute shite. Its got very few funny bits, the characters are horrible people who I hated and the whole thing is just an Appatow vanity project. He put both his kids in it, and yeah Judd everyone thinks their own kids are cute and funny but guess what, no one else gives a shit about your kids. Oh and your wife is terrible and shouldn't be in films and never ever dare to claim she's hotter than Megan Fox ever again.
John Dies at the End, this was way, way weirder than I expected but it was pretty funny and I ended up really enjoying the weirdness of the whole thing. Its like Bill and Ted on acid.
Liberal Arts, not sure when this came out or if its a leak or not but I watched it last week so I'm gonna include it. Its actually quite a charming little film despite it starring Josh Radnor who's really annoying on HIMYM. Its a bit up its own arse in the way certain Woody Allen films are up their own arse but for some reason I like that, why shouldn't films have pretentious characters in them. I also empathised a lot with the main character and his wishing he was still in his college years.
