So, just back from the Hobbit with the kids. 3D of course. 🙂
Quite liked it. Slow at times, especially the first half hour or so, but the movie also explains a few things that are not in the book the Hobbit or the Lord of the rings trilogy. All in all - a decent movie. Will defo see the other two parts, but can't help but feeling that 3 movies is at least one too many. Possibly two.

Looking forward to "Oz: The Great and Powerful" though.

No choice for me really. Having read all the Tolkien books several times does that to a guy I guess. 🙂

Such stunning imagery. I've been thinking of it a lot lately when reading about the new Hubble discoveries. It somehow feels thematically appropriate for this time of year too. Watch it at night, alone. I promise you won't regret it.

Instantly visible that they went with the tried and tested 'let's rape Tolkien's books for commercial purposes'-formula again. Dwarves for comic relief, elves for teenage girls and big special effects for the spotty teenagers.

saw Flight last night.. pretty decent flick.. solid 7/10 for me..

also watched Pitch Perfect a couple days ago.. a bit cheesy, but some fairly funny parts.. (was a recommendation by a friend).. as long as you watch it for what it is, its not horrible

Moon was on last night. Didn't watch it, but have recorded it. Another superb Sam Rockwell performance.

Did watch We Need To Talk About Kevin again. The use of sound and imagery in this film creates such a claustrophobic atmosphere, love the hallucinatory quality to it.

We Need To Talk About Kevin is a good movie. Nowhere near as horrible as the book, but defo a good watch.

Read the book about five years ago and remember when it dawned on me just exactly why Franklin was absent... OMG!

watched End of Watch tonight. big disappointment to me. very slow and hated the ending.

Finally saw The Hobbit this afternoon in 3D high frame rate. Thought it was absolutely fantastic. Can't understand any of the negative comments. It did not drag on at all, I felt there was enough happening that there was never any point to feel bored. Maybe the first half hour or so wasn't as fast paced as it could be but felt it was necessary to introduce the vast number of main characters. Perhaps the fact I haven't read the book contributed as I don't know which parts have been added to the story that are not in the original, though I gather Cate Blanchett's character wasn't at least. As for the HFR I was convinced within the first 5 minutes. Everything was crystal clear as if you were looking at it through a window and there is no way realism like that can be a bad thing. No part of any set looked fake and nothing moved too fast. My expectations were very high and I think they have even been exceeded. Cannot wait for part 2.

Even the girlfriend who had to be dragged along saying "I'm really not interested, Lord of the Rings was really not my thing" is now saying "oh man I can't believe we have to wait another year to see what happens that was so awesome." Jackson has absolutely done it again and will thoroughly deserve any Oscars coming this year IMO.

Galadriel, Blanchett's character, is in the book, but she gets into the plot later. Reckon that will be in part two.

Reading that Jay-Z will compose the OST for The Great Gatsby. Safe to say the film will be your usual Baz Luhrmann bullshit then.

Had it in my head that Scorsese was doing Gatsby - think I'd just assumed the plot of entourage had come to life. 😆

Haha, I saw Moon the other night as well. Rockwell is really good every in everything he does.

Also Sky +d Blade Runner which was on after. Love that film - absolutely timeless and stunning visuals.

AND I watched another classic today - Breakfast Club. Judd Nelson is fantastic in it. Rite of passage viewing.

I've got We Need To Talk About Kevin Sky +d so might watch that tomorrow (as I made the genius decision to take the day off work).

Saw Les Misérables in a matinee on NYE. Thought it was pretty good actually.

The stage show was huge when I was a kid in the late 80s so I knew a few of the songs - they're cheesy but they're quite moving. Shed a tear in a couple of places. Poor little Gavroche! 🙁

Saw Jack Reacher. Thought it was a predictable yet very enjoyable film, surprised its ratings are quite poor.

Hara-kiri 2012 remake.

Decent enough, first death was one of the most grim scenes produced in years. Winced for pretty much the whole five minutes.
