If it were just a case of who has the most money, then we would indeed be screwed. However, that isn't entirely accurate though, and more so with FFP seemingly leveling the playing field in our favor. Firstly, in England only Man U is in front of us when it comes to revenue in the foreseeable future I reckon; Liverpool doesn't even enter into the equation, and both Chelsea and Man City are struggling as it is to be profitable. That means that, as things stand, both of those clubs pretty much have to sell to buy. Secondly, there are too many class players around to leave us out; for instance, if Man U indeed get Vidal this window there are still players like Khedira, Pogba and Schneiderlin who would suit our needs. I think that holds true for every position on the field as well; there are in essence only a handful of clubs across Europe who can truly compete for top players, and we are now one of them. Thirdly, if you look at the situation in Spain, I think the power struggle between Real Madrid and Barcelona will in the near future become a reality in the PL as well, albeit with 4 clubs in the hunt instead of 2; it is already so, but we will more clearly join Man U, Man City and Chelsea than in the last 5 years or so; the signing of Özil was the start, and the addition of Sanchez and whoever else we bring in this summer will only put us more clearly in that group. In conclusion, as long as we are dining at the top table as we are now, I don't see any risk at all that we will lag behind any other club in Europe in the current footballing landscape.
