If they sign 2 of Rojo, Cuadrado and Di Maria they will be up there for the title. Van Gaal has got them very very organised and so far they have been great in pre-season, although its not a yardstick to measure any team.
Rojo and Cuadrado aren't difference makers at the top level. Signing DiMaria would be what I'd call "serious business" but they haven't signed him and probably wont.
Pre-season is nothing. Very easy to look organised against teams in a friendly. Wait until they meet us, Chelsea and City. Or even when they visit Stoke, Palace, Sunderland, etc
United finished 7th last season and have lost a lot of experience. Right now their squad is weaker than it was, van Gaal is obviously and improvement on Moyes but I'm not convinced he's better than Wenger, Pelligrini and Mourinho. Maybe not even B-Rodge.
In my opinion, Moyes underachieved far too greatly and now people are taking United too lightly. The year before, this squad steamrolled everyone to win the title.
Van Gaal is a great coach, make no mistake about that. He is up there with the 3 of them. I hope United crash and burn as well but don't think it will be the case. Currently their formation is fitting their squad's strengths to good effect. No longer the debate of who to play as striker, and Mata can play in the hole as well. They just need great wing backs now and Cuadrado is one of the best at it.
On paper this really looks quite good if they manage to sign their targets
-----------De Gea
-------Smalling Evans Rojo
Cuadrado Herrera Fletcher Shaw
---------------Mata
-----------RVP Rooney
