Errr...probably a bit cluttered and pointless if i'm honest. I don't really know what the console is capable of though, as to me its just a games box. There's a bunch of features and icons that i'll probably never use.

Some of the in-picture multitasking ("snap") looks interesting to me but I haven't had opportunity to play around with it as yet. To be fair, I think you're right and that most of it will be a gimmick that lasts a couple of weeks at best.

I'd consider a steambox if its not too expensive, the controllers decent and the steam sales remain as good as they are now.

Finally got around to sending my XBOX One back today! I seriously think I would of forgotten all together if I hadn't had a clean up on my room last week!

Not surprising but the Wii U forecasts have been cut quite, down from 9mill units to 2.8! I really do fear for Nintendo, their portable side and gaming division I think does well for them but on the main console side I do think if the console after the Wii U is a flop they might not bring another out. They need something which will better the graphics of the current consoles, the Wii U IIRC wasn't much better than the X360 or PS3. I don't know how profitable the consoles are for Nintendo but they need to take steps like Sony and Microsoft and possibly sell at cost or below next time round. Seem like a company too stuck in their ways.

Been saying the same for a while. Surely their big titles like Mario, Mario Kart etc would be big sellers on other consoles?

Wish they would, there's games like Mario Kart that I'd absolutely love to play on the Xbox.

Yeah I'd buy all the Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, etc game if they were on PS4.

The Wii U is sold below cost.

They won't go third party, it would kill them.

If you want their software, you buy the hardware; as it is for every first party publisher in the world. 😆

But if it's sold below cost, i.e. it's loss making and on top of that they can't shift anywhere near the sort of units they'd like, why bother getting people to buy their hardware?

They have made 12 consoles and one has been poorly received (wii U is a bomb for now) while another didn't make it out of Japan and was canned quickly (virtual boy). In between they have made more money than anyone else from consoles and despite being a one horse toy company, have a higher market value than Sony.

Why would they throw that away to become a publisher?

You can literally write pages on Nintendo's problems, but going third party is far from necessary or desirable for them at this moment in time or the foreseeable future.

The number of units sold for their consoles has been in a steady decline since the SNES, it's market share being eaten up by rivals. The Wii was an anomaly in my opinion. Of course, if you've just sold 100m units you're not going to throw in the towel, but the Wii U was always going to be a flop unless they could differentiate themselves again through innovation, unlike Playstation and to a lesser extent Xbox they don't have the luxury of simply upgrading the specs.

But anyway, let's not kid ourselves; the wii U flopped largely because Nintendo forgot to advertise it.

The days when software sold hardware are long gone and they failed to adapt. They'll have at least two more goes and in all likelihood three (so another 10-15 years at least) before they make the decision to rip their entire business apart.

I'm kinda serious too. I think their software is their strength, so is the brand (for now), and Wii aside, their consoles have been losing market share, which gives their games a smaller platform to be successful.

I certainly don't think I'm the only one who'd love to play Nintendo games but don't think it's worth getting the console in order to do so.

Think it will get a bump, but a quite insignificant one on the scale of things.

They need something big, maybe an nfc enabled piece of software that is a hit with kids. But before any of that, if they actually intend to save the platform, they need to ramp up their marketing efforts and make the system relevant at least in terms of mindshare if nothing else. The general populace doesn't even know that this thing exists.

It's value proposition is equal to any other in my opinion.

No. They make most of their money from their consoles plus licensing fees.

Of course, if nobody is buying the console or making any games for it, then....
