I do this, though not with crosses because I can't cross for shit. I try to get to the byline and find a pass in the box. Pace alone isn't enough though, you need either balance or strength with it, ideally both. For instance I can't do it with Sterling at all, he's just too weak. Same with Theo. I prefer someone like Mirallas even though he's lower rated. Cuardado is great for it, as is my 85 SIF Insigne.
I play FUT pretty exclusively though which is a bit different.
