It's not, actually. Look at the cash on hand & other liquid assets in the accounts - that'll give you a clue.

Squilaci and Chamakh are still Arsenal players.
Dempsey is signing for Spurs.
@ Asa, Swiss Ramble I suppose?
I'll have a look then but why the fuck isn't the money used to pay off the debt?
@ JazzG
Dein made what was it 75 million pounds by selling his shares? I agree that the board don't do what they do for a love of arsenal but I don't think the money we make on transfers goes directly into their pocket.
4th will be mighty close
on wiki re Snjeider
Arsenal
On the 31st of August, Arsenal F.C. had an undisclosed bid accepted for the Internazionale midfielder. It is reported that the deal will soon finalised, and confirmed.
Reality sinking in we are signing fuck all.
What a waste of a day this has been.
Glad the window shuts in just over an hour.

No - just looking at the accounts on the .com website - don't read Swiss Ramble, though I'm sure it's excellent, reminds me too much of the day job!
You're right though - club directors obviously aren't pocketing transfer cash. I do think though that, to some degree, particularly the old guard are still here out of some sense of duty or custodianship. Unfortunately, I don't get the impression that they ever kept pace with the rapid growth of the game over the last 20 years or so, and it took Arsene Wenger to revolutionise us on the pitch, David Dein's pressure behind the scenes (and no, I don't think he was ALWAYS right), and laterly a new guard of corporate types to desperately try to drag us up by the boot straps commercially.
Hill-Wood & co presided over the stadium construction, but their lack of vision in other areas has, I think, caused a lot of damage over the years.
Essien going to Real Madrid!
I want him now.

I'll give it a look if I can find it , I'm looking at the financial results for last year and see what I can gather from it but accounts stuff usually goes way over my head.
The early pages are about the increase in profit made from 2011 compared to 2010.
I think PHW once said that the world has just gone way past him, and I think that sort of sums up the entire board, football has moved on from them. In all honesty it's amazing how we managed to pick up three league titles in 7 years I think it was on our budget and this may sound stupid well it is stupid but I think if Chelsea and City had never gotten sugar daddies it would still be us and United at the top. We've been left behind and the only reason Man Utd haven't been left behind is because of their global revenue stream and commercial deal which gives them a lot of money to spend, that and the money earned from all the trophies they have won.
You get the feeling if we were offered Messi at a price slightly higher than we thought he was worth, we'd turn him down and play Diaby!
Anyway, there's always Iliev.
Things will get really ugly if we don't get at least a point at Anfield and 3 against Southampton. Wenger's not in credit right now.
Things were ugly against Sunderland, weren't there boos at the final whistle?
People got fed up about the way things are last season, I don't know if any of you listen to the Tuesday club podcast but the guys that do it usually sound so upbeat and excited about our chances for a new season until march/april when we blow it but now they all sound so melancholy and downbeat about our season.
A lot of people are becoming disillusioned with the way the club is going.
why in fucks name did we sell song? i refuse to believe its because the player threw a strop, because wenger should be capable of managing that. and we dont someone in house who's better (though wengers obsession with diaby continues to baffle). seems like cynical profteering on the surface.
Tony Leen @tonyleen
I hate giving false hope to frustrated arsenal fans, but good club contact says there may be one good piece of loan business in pipeline.
One final, final, desperate roll of the dice maybe
Yet again we are going to fall short and blame no one but wenger.

Same reason Real sold Makelele all those years ago and lived to regret it as the Galacticos couldnt function as well without their main water-carrier. Some positions are always undervalued rightly or wrongly.
Not true at all Muswell.
Makelele was sold because he didn't fit into the Galacticos image, whatever happened after is neither here nor there.
We sold song because of attitude problems apparently.
We might live to regret it but we've lost better players.

We know for a fact that he won't though.
God I hope he tags Ith us his whole career

True we have lost better players but we now have to play a half fit Diaby. DIABY! HALF FIT!!
Also Makelele was not sold due to image problems. He was on peanuts and asked for a pay rise and was told where to go

Dear, oh dear, Muswell.
I agree though, Gazza, Song being sold with no one coming in is strange. It's Diaby getting fit which has done it, I'm sure of it. And I DO NOT LIKE DIABY!
So glad the scum didn't get Moutinho.*
YES FUCKIN GET IN CHAMAKH IS STAYING!!!!!!!!!!1111111111
Essien to Madrid phew
Did sky even bother putting a reporter outside the emirates?p
I'm not even angry this year. Expected nothing else from today after the debacle we got last summer. I could fully believe the club would let the fans down again. Just sad really. We just don't get it. Idiots are running the club, men who clearly know didly squat about football. And Wenger, a proper great manager, should hang his head in shame that he doesn't do more to make us as good as we can be.
Very, very disappointing.

Maybe should have added "in my opinion" but thought it wasnt necessary as i didnt think i had said anything controversial but please enlighten me as to why i deserve the condescending "dear oh dear"
Not all bad. We signed the best player out of every transfer made in the premiership
Song was not a selfless "water-carrier" mate. Not on your nelly. Anything but, and I suspect that's the main reason he was sold.
Perhaps shouldn't have been as dismissive as that either. Sorry. Not very happy with anything Arsenal right now!

Wilshere's return is the one thing I look forward to at the moment. Proper world-class footballer.
Exhibit 8 in the case against Arsene Wenger - another transfer window passes with large sums left unspent.

Indeed Rick, I don't understand why people think we don't see eye to eye on many topics.
We should invest the money saved in cloning henry et al
Jeez stupid iPad keypad
Stoke sign nzonzi. Pulis really does just go for big physical players
Hope they go down
Fucking Wenger and his crew of clowns. This team is no where near good enough to do anything useful this season.

No worries mate. I though the official reason given for his sale was that he asked for a pay rise like Makelele and was refused. However you are right about pointing out the difference between Song and Makelele because if Song indeed had attitude problems, as the rumours suggest, then good riddance is all i can say and as has been previously mentioned, Wenger has been pretty dismissive of him since he has gone. Cazorla is a massive upgrade anyway
That's all she wrote folks.
See you back here again in January or June.
naz wrote:Fucking Wenger and his crew of clowns. This team is no where near good enough to do anything useful this season.
yep
Van Persie and Song done well getting out as soon as they could. This is a club that clearly has no ambition of winning trophies.
