Gervinho is just too frustrating for words sometimes. Just no real composure against the big teams when chances are limited. Took his goal well, but his link up play was terrible. Does work hard, but is not really on the same wavelength as the others. Always seemed to pass the ball backwards rather than take the slightly harder, but more penetrative option when he dropped into midfield thus allowing Chelsea's midfield to get back into position.
Not sure whether he should be treated as a starter, as that would mean persisting with him even when his form isn't great. The last two games where Gervinho has been given the main striking berth, Podolski's contribution has diminished and we as a team have struggled to create chances (admittedly against stronger opposition). However, we have looked far from fluent and the subsequent substitutions have barely made any impact.
I know it's only been a few games, but I think Podolski plays better when Giroud plays as the CF, as he occupies their CBs allowing Poldolski more freedom. Gervinho tends to roam everywhere and his movement is not compensated for by his team-mates. He will score goals, but I think the rest of the team suffers, plus he is not clinical enough at the moment in tight games where chances are at a premium.
