Podolski seems like the perfect wide forward to me - runs directly at goal, hard working and hopefully he continues to be clinical in front of goal. Seems pretty strong as well, I reckon he'll shrug off most fullbacks he comes up against.

We wouldn't have Arteta or Carzorla if we'd still had Fabregrease Klaus, and in view of how difficult it was to find a suitable complimentary partner for him I think it was a blessing in disguise losing him.
Watching the balance and understanding between Arteta Carzorla and Diaby, if they can all stay fit I think we've got something there.

He ran his socks off yesterday. Helped Gibbs a lot. Loved his goal too. Started the move and ended it himself.

Maybe. I think we most definitely could have, but I'm not going to dwell on it. What matters is that they are here, and more importantly - they want to be here.

Arteta, Podolski and Cazorla all strike me as players who lead by example. It's been a while since we had so many of them.

Well look at his main midfield partners, Gilberto Flamini Denilson Song Ramsey, as Wenger point blank refused to spend any money on them only Flamini struck the right balance.

I think he played great with Gilberto and Song too. Most of the time the team around him wasn't up to pair.

No, even I who adored Gilberto saw that he didn't work with Fabregas.

Great performance.

Podolski and especially Cazorla are fantastic footballers, they're going to be great signings.

Diaby was also fantastic. He has something that we don't have at the club and something that is really hard to find in the transfer market. Really hope he can stay fit and be consitant.

Anyway else think Ramsey looked good again for the short time he was on?

Yup, but Ramsey is usually reliable when you're not relying on him for creativity. Off the ball, he's always fantastic work rate wise.

I expect him to have a solid season for the 30 or so appearances he might make this season in all comps.

Gilberto played with an undercooked Fabgregas to be fair.

Big difference from Diaby was that he found Arsenal players with his passing, which has been his key weakness in the past. The rest was pretty much standard Abou performance.

Jenkinson is still a shocking player, lots of work to be done there.

Think there's a danger of over thinking it. You simply have to cover a lot of ground quickly in midfield. Fabregas and Song are just not quick enough so you need a Flamini to make up the difference. Arteta is not particularly quick and similar to gilberto relies on reading the game, but then you need a relatively speedy player like cazorla or Wilshere. Diaby can get across quicker too with his long strides. We can tighten up the gaps more easily if we have pace + positional awareness. One without the other isn't ideal.

Don't you think he was solid without the ball?

He figured out Sterling early on and the teenager never got the better of him 1 v 1. I think he's got the same weaknesses as Sagna - that's the sort of player he'll develop into IMO, no idea how good he'll become though.

Thought Jenko was solid myself. Never missed a tackle the whole afternoon. Passing in the first 20mins leave much to be desired but grew on during the game
