On the surface, I'd agree that this looks to be like a situation where the business end of the transfer was handled poorly. At the end of the day, we don't know the entire story. Transfers are, after all, a two way street. You could also speculate that we spent precious negotiating time on a player that we ultimately missed out on, but there's a lot of dealings behind the scenes that we don't know about it. It's easy to cry about the fact that Wenger missed out on quality again (feels a lot like the Mata, Xabi Alonso, Ribery, etc sagas all over again), but it's impossible to make a sound opinion on it unless you know the whole story. Onwards and upwards, I guess.
