Give any of our centrebacks ten consecutive starts against opponents of similar quality and Koscielny is going to have the best run of the lot. By far. Should have made sure that he got into the team straight away when the season started.

Vermaelen deserves to be dropped. There is no other choice.

We need to do this to wake the players up. You can produce a performance of that sort and still stay in the team.

Vermaelen was a disgrace today. When your captain plays like that, no wonder the rest of the team won't do better.

He played like that last season too and was awarded the captaincy for it. Face it, he's not going to get dropped. We might see some form of compromise where he's being played as a left-back until Gibbs is back though.

Kos doesn't deserve to start based on his poor performances this season. He's been outright terrible at times.

But reality is that Vermaelen has been poor since he came back from injury a year ago. Koscielny has at least showed a season of top level performances. Something which can't be said of Vermaelen. Give Kos-Per a run of games together.

Koscielny made heaps of mistakes last year too. Overrated on this forum.

Koscielny's goal conceding mistakes did decrease sharply in frequency from about November onwards though.
Honestly don't know who is less of a risk at this stage.

Vermaelen's rubbish goes back into last season. At that time he was given some lee way for playing at fullback and returning from injury.

Also, I don't think Vermaelen's ever had a good game against top opposition.
