We would be mad to get rid of Ramsey before giving him another season. He wasn't at the races at all the season just gone.
But could we expect him to be?
- Just back from over a year out of the game.
- Expected to replace one of the most talented midfielders in the world.
- Was the sole central creative option after we lost Wilshere for the season and before Rosicky had his resurgence.
- Was played out of position behind the striker.
Ramsey would be much more comfortable in one of the roles Arteta/Song held last year. He never played as an advanced midfielder before really, mainly as part of a midfield two, flat midfield 3 or occasionally on the right.
As for the silly flicks/tricks: Yes it was infuriating to see him squander so much possession. But he had the responsibility to try and create, and of all the players who could be give licence to play risky passes Ramsey was the one the onus was on. If they had have come off we'd be creaming ourselves over him. At least he had the confidence to try. He also never hid from the ball when things weren't going his way unlike Denilson/Walcott.
By the end of the season you could see he was just trying too hard. A goal or two for him would have boosted his confidence and done him the world of good. He absolutely has a future at Arsenal and if we stick with him I can see himself and Jack forming a very effective partnership.
