It's not just those two. Basically, if Theo gets 100k+ a week then that's your bench mark. Anyone better is perfectly entitled to ask for more (and they will). And that's fine, but making a decent/good player like Theo your highest paid player will have a BIG knock on efect on the wage bill.

For me, the thing that pisses me off is that if he leaves it'll be for free. I dont think he'd be that hard to replace, even tonight he was the third best forward on the pitch.

If the club were going to break their little wage structure they would've done so for Van Persie. Theo has no chance and surely we all know he is off in the summer.

We have players, for sure, who are more pleasing on the eye and are at a technical level that Walcott will never achieve. BUT, there are things that Walcott offer that they do not. His pace, movement and finishing are top class.

It is a well known fact that those who score a shit load of goals get the highest pay checks. When Podolski, Cazorla or whoever achieves Walcott's output - then they may have a case. Until then, not so much.

Van Persie is 29 and we would never have been able to recoup that wage money when selling him on.
Theo is in theory entering his prime plus he's English so realistically we could sell him on for massive money in a couple of years even if it costs us in the short term?

Podolski is on 90k a week and is an attacking player. If he wanted walcotts wages then an answer to him would be to get as many goals as Theo does.

Regarding Cazorla-he's tied down till he's 31 and of course we saw him throw tantrums and transfer requests all those years at Villarreal and Malaga. The only reason he left both times because the clubs were in the shitter.

Good points - especially about strikers having higher transfer fees and wages.

His dribbling is atrocious IMO. That's one of the reasons he frustrates out wide. Showed surprisingly good close control when shitting on the toons for his third though.

It's not just his dribbling though, his passing is just as erratic. We could've had 2 more easily today if he just would've hit passes where he had ACRES of space even somewhat near where he needed to hit them.

He's a frustrating talent that is finding some semblance of form finally. I'd like him to stay because we finally need some continuity above all else IMO, but there is a part of me that wonders if that frustration is what we'll end up remembering him for if he does stay.

This. Giroud does seem to have some of those attributes, he and Walcott played off each other well today. For Theo to be most effective, we're going to need someone to hold up play more in front of him because he sure as hell cant do it.

Some of you are talking as if Theo has just completed his second straight 30 goal season or something. 2 months of good form and 8 league goals. That's it. He was getting booed 9 months ago.

He's not the best or most important player at this club, so if we decide to pay him the most other players will want more. Naive to think otherwise.

Your gut feeling though Tim - do you not think Walcott is going to be a 30 goal a season striker very, very soon? (I think he already is one). That's what frustrates us. We're going to be losing someone who is almost certainly going to be a prolific striker even if he hasn't proven it yet. The signs are there that he's going to be good at scoring goals if nothing else.

Fair enough if this is just a purple patch but today's game showed the 'normal' Theo. The one that will produce an Henry-esque finish one minute and then be ridiculously wasteful with an easy ball the next. Walcott scores goals - that's what his game has been all about for a couple of years now.

Well so far this year (could be wrong on this) Kos, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Jack, Chamberlain, Cazorla, Giroud and Podolski have all signed contracts?
Meaning it will be a year or more before the stampede for parity with Theo begins, unless you happen to be Sagna and Arteta.
Given their ages, both are at a big disadvantage.

Unless Wenger really thinks we can do without Theo (and forget the delusion that we'd buy somebody as effective for less than it would cost to keep him) then I don't see the point in getting rid because of a reluctance to pay £100k per week

I think he has the makings of a good striker in the right set up, and it'll be annoying to lose him for free.

But just watching tonight you can see that someone like Ba is a much more accomplished centre forward than Theo will ever be imo.

Could be wrong but I doubt agents sit around doing nothing between contract extensions. If they feel their clients are getting a raw deal I think they'll be pushing for more money. Why wouldn't you, if we're ripping up the old wage structure for Theo?
