Goals win games. They are the most important event within a game and are the most difficult thing to make happen. Dunno if you watch Real Madrid but Ronaldo spends 95% of every game doing stupid shit and "losing possession" but he bangs 50 goals in a season and that is why he is rated as one of the best players to ever kick a ball. What the coach does is allow for his stupidity by complimenting him with players who craft the game and give him a platform.

Now Theo is miles below Ronaldo, but it's the exact same thing; he contributes what a forward should contribute and has not been carried while he has been a starter. We have a better player now, so he has dropped to the bench. That's pretty much it and everyone's a winner.

He's pretty clearly being punished Ricky, but it's a bit of an odd one, isn't it?

I'm not sure why his contract negotiations played out differently than they have for other players, but I suspect it's because interest really hasn't been strong.

He's a luxury player, not a real target for those clubs that would want him, that he would also want to go to.

This long held ambition may be a useful ingredient for us this season, after all if he does get a chance, you'd imagine his effort level will be sky high.

Liverpool should've tried to sign him - he'd definitely be an asset to them at the moment. Reportedly they did, but perhaps they didn't try that hard?

You can understand why he and indeed Bendtner before him is pissed off, he wants to play centrally but has never really had the opportunity, instead seeing such stiffs as Chamakh Gervinhio and now Giroud preferred.
But y'know- Wenger knows........

Sky Sports and BBC interviews where the recent quotes have emerged from. Some interesting bits in there, says he could have left for more money in the summer if he'd wanted to - and I don't doubt him on that.

Yep, whatever you think of Walcott, it must be frustrating for him.

He's done with being a winger now, so it's either give him a chance there or let him go.

Can anyone think of a similar instance of a player successfully enforcing a change of position on Wenger?

Usually it's fit in or fuck off with Arsène.

I'm not saying he'd be great there but may as well give him a chance, he couldn't be any worse.

The season has just started and arsene has always said he sees walcott as a central striker, he will get his chance there just as gerv has. This is a good thing as I've wanted to see him as a striker as well, and if it doesn't work out he can leave knowing he tried.

I don't think Theo is trying to 'enforce' a change. He said that he might get his chance to play upfront on Wednesday and said that he might get a couple of games now to show what he can do. This isn't an ambush move like Van Persie - I think it's clear that Theo and Arsene would've discussed this.

The stumbling block over the new contract and his future is not about his position. With the above and the fact that Wenger has said he doesn't want forwards playing out wide any more, it's reasonable to assume he is eyeing Gervinho and Walcott as competitors for the CF (or near enough) position.

The bigger problem Theo faces is that maybe Arsene doesn't think he has got anything special to offer. Maybe Gervinho hasn't either but he is maybe a safer option w.r.t retaining possession and defensive work (while Podolski and Cazorla are tearing it up atm).

When all is said and done, I reckon Theo can do well upfront in this team.

Fair enough, but I still think he deserves a chance to show what he can do in that position in a proper game, with proper players around him, and with a decent run to settle into it. I think he's confident he'll show a different player when he gets his chance.

If anything its good to see his putting pressure on himself, proving he is more 'ready' than in previous season. Otherwise he could just sit and continue putting in average performances on the wings.
