If you mean to jailbreak it - then you can do that in minutes on an Android phone. Not that you need to.

Is anybody using Tasker btw? Been playing around with it for the last two weeks or so and I have to say - it's an amazing app. Quite difficult to learn beyond basic tasks, but when you get a hang of it you can have your phone do the most amazing things.

You talk about customization etc though. Most people don't want that, they want to turn on their new phone and thats it. Loads of my friends and family come to me to set their phones up when they get them, there is no way they could ever manage to do more than install and delete apps. Thats what they mean by "it just works".

The iphone is user friendly. Certain things might take an extra click but generally in terms of UI psychology 2 vs 3 clicks isn't a big deal.

The whole debate reminiscent of the whole PS3 vs Xbox 360 thing. They are basically the same, they have 99% the same games and yet people fight like cats and dogs about which is better. At the end of the day they do the same thing at pretty much the same level. The same is true of the iphone vs a high end android. Its all just the same.

No, I mean 'break' as in a person without a clue can easily find their phone unusable.

I really don't get the myth about IPhone being easier to use than an Android device.

You are dead right about the average user though. My wife certainly wants a new phone, from the top end, every 18 months or so. The features she uses basically mean that she could have kept her phone from 10 years ago.

The whole thing about iphone vs Android doesn't make any sense anyway. iOS only runs on iphones, android runs on all sorts of phones, some of them great and some of them not. Androids changed more radically in recent years too by the looks of that video compared to the last time I used it. iOS is still pretty much the same as it was when I got my first 3S.

Iphone is actually a little easier to use for most because it only has the one hard button (home button) compared to the 3 that android has (menu, home and back). To navigate around on iphone it has labelled arrow keys at the top and it is quit intuitive tbf, it is a pleasant user experience if a little dull now.

You'd think that Apple could have done a better job with iOS though BECAUSE they only have the one phone to accomodate. Android still is far, far ahead despite that it works with so many different makes, processors, screen sizes etc.

IBL - one thing about the browsing experience on the wife's Ipad, and it's the same on the IPhone, that I find very annoying is that the 'back' button can be located in different places depending on what sites you go to. It is always bottom left on Android devices. Simples.

iOS is better for technologically incompetent individuals. You may not believe it, but seeing them in the wild, it is true.

Keep in mind that my ipad currently sits with a broken screen at the bottom of a bag somewhere and I can't stand it.

agreed Rex, that does annoy me too. On the iphone its top left so being right handed I have to reach over to it with my thumb, with the android its right next to your fingers!

Could you expand on that Capi? I sort of feel the same way. I have even suggested the wife to get the new IPhone. She really needs a phone for dummies. 🙂

I can't explain it, it's just one of those things.

You know when you look at a female's (as a generalisation) laptop screen, there are like 100 different icons on the desktop and your head explodes..? Yeah, for some reason the same thought process seems to prefer the iOS interface.

iOS is the opposite to that though, its very clean and simple. Any one who claims its cluttered really doesn't have the first idea about UI design.

A 'cluttered' desktop is clean and simple to many folk...

Not that I said iOS is cluttered. In fact I said the opposite, like five times in a row.

cant stand iphones and android is so buggy. wp8 is the winner for me. [crickets]

🙂 You may be a little lonely there, Kami, but I wouldn't write Microsoft off yet. It's only software.

Since ICS, Android doesn't seem to have many stability issues left. No apps that I use regularly ever crash.

The big issue with Android phones nowadays is the fucking mountains of crap that HTC and Samsung insist on installing over the top of the stock OS - and they're making it harder to custom ROM phones as well.

As bad as the days when Windows PCs would come pre-installed with a million types of spyware / malware / marketing cruft from the software and hardware vendors.

Hmm. I actually think the IPhone DOES look cluttered with everything on the screen that you can't really move.
I understand WHY it is like that, but I think it looks aesthetically appalling. I like that with Android I COULD have it like that, but I can also have a clean screen free of all of that if that were to float my boat.

With a bit of work you can actually make your Android phone look exactly like an IPhone with its screens, down to using the exact same logos. If you want.
