Best smart phone?

How much are you guys paying for your smartphones? And what do you get for it?

For £22 per month I get a Samsung SIII with:

unlimited texts
unlimited minutes
2 GB of Data

I got me a sim only deal with Tesco, on a samsung s3 bought sim free.

£15 for 1000 mins, 5000 text and 2GB internet.

1 month rolling contract so if I need to change its not a problem.

I'm on Vodafone.

How much was the phone though? Rolling contract is perfect. 3 have excellent internet but their reception is poor. I like Vodafone's reception.

The handset cost me £380 but I did sell my iphone 4 for £270 to fund it. Considering its one of the best phones out there I thought it was worth the investment.

If you use a lot of voice minutes then your deal would be worth it. Vodafone and 02 have the best reception by far I've found.

That's great a price. Handsets are around 450 from official shops (reduced to 400 quid in Vodafone though). On Ebay, I see that handsets are around £380-£400 with free delivery. With your rolling contract for 15 quid a month that is brilliant.

My contract works out as 528 quid over two years but I have to pay that. It would have been 42 quid a month but they knocked 20 quid off for me as i've been with vodafone for a while.

I'm surprised you could sell your iphone 4 for that much. I've never had an iphone but I assumed as soon as the new generation came out, the old versions reduced massively. Clearly not. And people still buy the 4S as new these days.

I sold my iphone about 4/5 months ago so it was worth a bit more, also it was a 16gb version and in mint condition. One thing about the iphones is that they do hold their value. I was on a £35 month contract before that on T-Mobile but it was way too much and I wasnt make much use of it. Your deal aint too bad as it included the handset too presumably.

His bias is crazy. I don't know how good the android phones are but he's either lying about the iphone there or he just isn't as familiar with it because he's making things alot harder than they actually are. The apps do multi-task too, what he's talking about with a download pausing because he's on youtube is the phone managing your connection so your youtube video isn't loading slower than it could.

It is a fact though that a lot of apps for Apple cost money while they are free for Android. Crazy as well that you have to pay extra if you want the same app for both your IPhone and your IPad. On Android that synk is automatic. If you want.

Also true that you can't really customize your Iphone isn't it? You get those 3 pages just full of junk. Looks unbelievably clustered.

Why should you have to go through the hassle of copying and pasting if you want to watch a vid on something other that Safari?

What about the deal with spoof web sites that even Apple have commented on as a major problem? You get an automatic warning of that shit on any Android device.

What is the smart thing on Apple about updates by friends on Facebook for instance just disappear after a short while? Why should you have to go through the hassle of pulling that little curtain down to see it? On Android you get a small, discreet logo in the upper left corner, and it STAYS there until you want to do something with it.

Why can't I connect a proper game pad via Bluetooth on an Apple device? Simples on Android.

Why is sharing made so difficult on Apple devices? The only one you get automatically is Twitter I believe? On Android you can easily share via Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, messages etc.

Why can't I turn on and off WiFi, GPS etc with just a simple on/off button on an Apple device? Why do I have to go all the way to settings? On Android it is simple.

I could go on all day really... 🙂

you apparently had way more problems with your iPhone than I do.. i think the 4s is pretty simple to use. its my first smart phone, and its quite easy to deal with.. maybe its different over here?

oh, it helps that i got mine for free and dont pay for service (through work)

Why the switch to android?

My handset was free yes. Maybe in a year, when a new phone comes out i'll unlock my phone, sell it and use that money to buy out the rest of my contract.

My brother had an S3 a few months beforehand and I really liked it. Also I had a Sony Xperia before the iphone 4 and one thing I really like about the android is that its so customizeable, i.e. you can set up the home screens with various widgets, alerts etc. Another big factor is that Android is drag and drop, I really hate using itunes to transfer anything to and from the iphone and you have to convert most of the stuff...such a pain!

Lol I had a Sony Xperia prior to the Samsung. Android is good. It was the X10 mini pro though which at the beginning people thought was cool but within the last few months people have laughed at it.

In the shop when I was transferring data, the assistant looked, raised his eyebrows and noted, 'big big upgrade'.

At the end of the day though its just a phone. Do people really need to feel so proud of their decision on which smart phone they've bought?

Nah. I just get wound up. Hands down, the IPhone is the prettiest phone on the market IMO.
I have too many people around me who keep saying how user friendly the IPhone is compared to an Android device and how 'things just work' with Ios compared to Android. They clearly don't have a clue.
