I have the Pixel 2 which is a nice compact-ish phone.

Looking forward to the next Sony releases in a few months.

Buy an IP67 or 68-certified phone and use a cover. 🙂

😆 Love Huawei's phones though. Better than Samsung and Apple's and also cheaper. Not really usable until they solve their conflict with USA though as they can't use things like Play Store at the moment.

Their hardware is great, not a fan of HarmonyOS or the proprietary memory cards but to be fair most makers don't even have any extension options these days. As you say as long as the US are committed to their economic warfare against Chinese companies their phones are useless anyway.

I'm using the Note20 Ultra at the moment, had to cave in and get a phone that forces me to use an adapter for my IEMs. The display and cameras are spectacular to be fair though.

Feel like there's too much focus on cameras with smartphone makers at the moment, I guess that's where the market is directing them, but not a whole lot of ingenuity otherwise. I would have happily stuck with the iPhone 8 plus, not least because the fingerprint sensor is miles better than faceID.

Really? Face ID is pretty much the only thing I like about iPhone. I'm forced to use it at the moment because that's the one we get through work and I think it's too expensive to buy a different one just for home use. But face ID is the only feature I wish Android phones had. They have their own versions, but for example Samsung's can be opened with a picture. Apple's is more secure, can be used with glasses and in the dark. Only downside is if you're wearing sunglasses.

Or when you're wearing a mask. I had the LG V50 before which also has Face unlock (think the Pixels do too) and never bothered to set it up, fingerprint recognition works much better and faster than any face tech Android or Apple.

Yeah, face masks made it 10x worse, but even before that I found faceid irritating in certain circumstances. Ideally you have the best of both worlds but that's obviously too much for Apple.

Insane specs though. Huawei phone will be selling like hot cakes if it had google services.

Still loving my oneplus 8. One of the best phones I had and still fast as hell after more than a year. Might be tempted to switch to pixel 6 if the rumoured features are right

Don't know about the specs, the P50 camera dept has broken DxoMark records but the first two Xiaomis Ultras have one upped them the last few times. Think the point of diminishing returns has long been passed, most flagship phones after 2019 have great cameras.

Why would you prefer FaceID to a fingerprint sensor? Aside from the security aspects (don't care too much), just seems less convenient.

After buying the S21 Ultra I have to say I agree. The last phone I had before the iPhone didn't have close to as good a fingerprint sensor as this one. The only thing I miss about FaceID is the app integration. When paying online it seems like I can't use fingerprint in many cases where FaceID would previously suffice.

However, this is ignoring how horrible my fingerprint sensor turned when using a glass protector. It's turned to shit even if there is a visible circle of some coating on the inside because the fingerprint sensor doesn't work through glass. Has anyone found good glass protectors or do you either use plastic or nothing?

(It was largely junk with a smattering of real antiques, but still made me laugh)

Never used a screen protector since the gorilla glass improved so much to the point its pretty hard to scratch now anyway.

Yeah it's mostly old people scared to mess their phone up who use them these days. Haven't used one since at least 2015 or so
