QHD always, never had to recharge even with very heavy usage. I don't use AOD though of course

Try a different launcher as Mirth says. I'm using the Pixel 2 one, easily the best I've ever used

I have never tried a new launcher but seems like a good idea. There's a new Pixel 2 launcher and seemingly have rave reviews about it.

Couple of questions, does it change what the stock launcher can do? Like AOD, custom app sizing and half screens?

I know practically nothing about phones, so I'm interested in how a different launcher would help with battery performance?

Some phones are just shit battery wise. Actually fully charged my S7 last before taking out the plug whilst in bed. This after I closed all apps and cleared the RAM. Woke up to find its on 73% lol. It is what it is.

The S7 (the Edge version at least) was hailed for its great battery time when it arrived. Batteries in new phones seem to deteriorate very quickly.

The iPhone plus models have the best battery I've experienced. The 8 Plus I got recently for example used up just 3% overnight while it never dies on me over the course of the day. The 6 plus started out in a similar vein but after 2.5 years it did start to struggle quite badly, needing a charge by around 5pm, but that was only in the last couple of months or so.

Yeah, I think that was one of the things that dragged me in first (ended up getting the regular, not edge version). Anyways actually believed the hype at first as the phone would last a day or so. Like 20 hours or so in each charge.

Wasn't until I checked how much usage I was getting that I realised that I hardly used it and most of the drain was during standby. Now I check the Screen On Time nost nights before I charge the phone and its usually at 2 hours lol.

Good grief, My Iphone was much better in this regard.

Samsung says that after two years' worth of charges and discharges, the Galaxy S7 only maintained about 80% of its total effective battery capacity. The Galaxy S8 and S8+, however, will maintain 95% of their capacity over that same period with the same usage. Samsung isn't going into the specifics of how this was accomplished, which isn't surprising, but it could perhaps both be the battery itself and advancements with the charging and power management systems.

Seems like Samsung admit that the S7 battery will degrade significant in a year or two which seems to tally up with what you and Daz have been saying.

Even iphones are expected to have under 80% capacity after roughly 2 years or 1000 full charges. That has always been the norm even in the days of the iphone 4s and 5.

The problem is that although my S7 has a longer overall battery life than my iphone 6, it is considerable worse in terms of time that the screen is on and phone is being used.

What's 3's coverage like? Particularly in London.

They used to be pretty patchy when i was with them 10 years ago.

They were pretty shit to be honest. EE/Tmobile/Orange generally has the widest coverage. Three was pretty good datawise for a little while when they had the all you can eat data packages while the other networks started rolling out limited 4g data but even that is gone now.

For a sim only deal probably best now is Plusnet (who use EE's network) for 5gb data and unlimited calls and texts for £10 a month.

three is absolutely terrible in central London. Avoid them like the plague.

Just got a Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Seems to be a fairly massive upgrade on my broken old HTC One M8s. Battery life (and recharging speed) seems great, the camera is sweet, and I'm impressed with the thumb and face recognition. Although maybe these things are old hat at this stage, I don't know phones. But I'm liking it so far.
