Squall, more than apps, it's your other media. To give you a sense, I have an 8 GB iPhone
Audio 4G (900 songs - I save space by converting high bit-rate files to 128 AAC)
Apps 0.1G (5 apps)

I actually got rid of all my apps. I only keep banking, mapping stuff, and one version of Angry Birds. My music is mostly in the cloud. I keep my favorite tracks that I know I will want on demand and leave the other 100GB at home.

Have to say, totally unrelated, that juice defender is an excellent app. Works mostly when your phone is idle. Helps me save hours of battery time.

For those of you who don't have a real plan if your phone gets stolen or if you lose it - check out Cerberus in the app market. Amazing app. You get it for life for up to 5 devices as well for roughly £3.

Dules or Claudius (or any other apple users), what are the 10-20 absolute must have apps for iPad?

I've got a 4 here that I'm going to gift to someone with little technical knowledge and I want to put on the necessities before handing it over. So far I have skype, the on demand tv channels and that's pretty much it.

I don't use apps but the sky sports footy one is a must

I am not, as you may know, an Apple person BUT, these are great. Don't know if all of them are available for an Apple device or what they would cost. I know a good few of them are available for IPhone as well though.

Viber - for free calls to everyone else in your phonebook who has it. Don't know the trend in the UK, but in Sweden loads of peeps have it.

Whatsapp messenger - free text messages, MMS or audio files. Same as with Viber. Don't know the UK situation obviously.

Waze - great interactive navigation app. Much better than anything Apple has to offer...

Cerberus - to locate a missing/stolen device. I know Apple has a feature like this, but I'd bet my left arm this one is head and shoulders above.

Lookout - for safe browsing. Would strongly recommend ESPECIALLY for IPhone users since Safari has had a quite a lot of problems here.

Juicedefender - very easy to use and it helps you save your batterylife quite a lot with no real effort.

Evernote - everything you can possibly ask for, and more, when it comes to organization.

Dropbox - excellent for storing and sharing pics and vids.

Tasker - best app ever. You need to a bit of a cellphone nerd for it though. Makes your smartphone REALLY smart if you get the basic features of the app even.

i have this moga controller that i've been playing with (modern combat 4 and gta:vice) for the last month ... i like.

Nothing wrong with it as far as protection goes: the ipad fits snugly, all of the connections are fine, volume and power button are fine, camera cut out etc. Has the magnetic function that turns the ipad on and off.

What I dislike is the 'stand' aspect. In landscape the angle is significantly more shallow than with the smart cover; it's not far from perpendicular to the desktop so if, for instance, you skype somebody and just want it to stand free on a desk or table, that's not going to work. Also, it means you need two, maybe two and a half foot clearance to watch something at an optimal viewing angle which is completely at odds with the convenience one would expect for train/plane/coach journeys. It also feels very unstable, like the ipad could flop forward, face down at any given moment.

When you put it into 'typing position', because the hinge is soft unlike the smart cover, it dips roughly half a centimetre below the apex of the triangular stand. Again, that changes the angle significantly and you may as well just lay the ipad flat, but that is perhaps something that just takes a little getting used to.

There's a stiff 'lip' around the outside of the case which, in my opinion, makes it uncomfortable to hold.

The case leaves streaks down the screen. Seems to be a massive design flaw/oversight by Apple and worse than the smart cover ones although I don't really remember. This is what it looks like, keep in mind that this ipad is less than a week old and was put in the case on day one. There are three streaks in total maybe two inches apart (basically, exactly where the folds are in the cover):
