Thanks for this Ricky, I remember having seen an extended highlights clip of this game when I was still in school, couple years after Henry signed for us but didn't remember which game. What a performance ffs.
Henry might not be the best football player of my lifetime because of a certain Argentinian midget and he might not even have had the highest peak I've seen because I remember Ronaldo at Barcelona and Inter.
But he's most definitely and by far the most charismatic player to ever grace the pitch for me. The combination of absurd pace and physicality and grace on the ball, the benign arrogance on the pitch both towards the opposition and in his celebrations, the variety of goals, the unheard of skill and trickery for someone with his height and athletic gifts, the fucking excitement just seeing him line up for us.
Had me giggling like a little schoolgirl on the regular watching him tear teams to shreds by himself. I went to Highbury first a year before we signed him but zero chance I would've become as big an Arsenal fan without him. Everyone back in the day used to play as Romario Ronaldo or Rivaldo in the cages but since day one I adolised the fuck out of Henry. There will never be anyone able to kick a ball like him, ever.
