Vieira said all that and still managed to stay and captain the likes of henry and pires and go unbeaten etc. If we really want robin to stay he will.

We have become far too easy to rile up and leave, first cole with his unhappiness made fans worry whether he was still in it (he just signed a new contract which we could enforce). Then the reyes homesick bullshit and adebayor/hleb/fabregas stuff. And now we even get twitchy at the thought of vela and bendtner being unhappy. We have gone way too soft on the players. If they didnt want to be at the club dont sign the contract and if you do you will fulfill it unless your surplus.

The difference is that VP only has a year left and Vieira still had 3 years to go on his contract. As a club that relies on transfer profit we are forced to sell if he doesnt renew unless we convince him otherwise.

😆 What i meant was particularly vela, someone mentioned getting 10 million or forcing him to stay and play, yet because he likes the spanish sun he cant stay here and we have to sell at a cut price. I mean i would rather have bendtner and vela on reserve than chamakh and park

It was brutal, this guy did everything he could to get out of the club but the club was like fuck you we'll be damned if we let you join Man Utd. Like YounGunner says as well, if we convince him to stay and he bangs 25 goals in next season nobody will care, football fans are generally as thick as they come really so people won't care. Look at Rooney, burned his bridges and has a good season and they act like that never happened at all.

Ljungberg was still somewhat of a raw potential, Henry was not yet the household name he was destined to become, Bergkamp looked to be heading into a decline and Pires had a tough first season. Not to forget we lost quality players in Overmars and Petit. Vieira was way ahead of everybody in the team, but it goes to show how quickly things can change. The following season, Henry and Ljungberg developed into world class players, Pires emerged as probably the best midfielder in Europe that season and Bergkamp found a new lease of life. We went on to comfortably win the league that season. Mabe a similar type of turnaround can happen this season.

The way he went about it was a disgrace though, people forget 3 years ago he was a nobody and now he suddenly thought he could start telling the manager and club everything that was wrong with the club. Didn't Wenger famously say to him "You weren’t world-class when Arsenal signed you." when Vieira questioned why we weren't signing world class players?

I'm not saying I blame him for wanting out because I do understand that was a low point for us and that summer apart from Sol there were no big name signings but the way he went about it was disgraceful really. Saying that over the next few years if the club had signed more players I think we would of won more than the 2 PL titles we did, topic for another time though....
