I know fans like to convince themselves it's "worth it" to let the contract run out but that's nonsense in the real world.
The primary goal is to be succesful on the pitch. If those in charge at the club feel we have a realistic chance to actually WIN something this season - then £20m or so certainly is 'worth it'.
Make the semis in the CL...[etc.] - there you have those £20m in extra prize money... more cash when we will renegotiate our main sponsorship deals.
Though I totally agree with Nela on how things normally are, and how fans' reasoning is motivated enough to be skewed, I agree with Rex (at least his first point). It's not a universal law that the board needs to decide according to either a simple, short term logic, a long term financial one, or any other.
It does involve some wishful thinking on the part of the fans to figure the board can just see the opportunity - that we might actually be title contenders, rising from the ashes (let's face it - that's where we were in the last few years), and figure it's worth doing (or worth the money). But the logic is not fantastic, just like signing 3 great players in one summer seemed fantastic - but we know it's not.
Personally I think the stronger argument is the one not dependent on money, but that it can go on and be backed as Rex put it in the latter part is also true.

Chillax, Squallkid. As disgusted as I am by the situation, him leaving right now is actually a positive. We should anxiously await the news we were previously dreading - he needs to go pronto. And as dules said earlier - let's wait for the comic part now.
Would be nice if our new captain renews his old rivalry with VP. Let's see them tackles flying in.
