We are close to United with the new signings, selling RVP to them would significantly strengthen them.

We bought some very good players last summer, but it came all too late. As evident by the start of the season.

This summer, we already have a pretty solid squad, since the players we acquired last year have all settled in, and we've built upon that by adding another three quality players.

Losing a player of van Persie's quality will be tough, but replacing him won't be as difficult as replacing Cesc and Nasri was - our game was built around those two.

Yeah but people are going on as if Wenger has never bought a few players at the same time before, I was just pointing out he was even more active last year.

Cazorla seems to be a very good signing, two good summers of some good signings back to back and I see no reason why any gooner should not be positive.

Aside from the Fabregas and Nasri sagas last year, the signings we made were mainly the type that our squad had been lacking for a number of seasons. Good solid experienced professionals. The signings this summer appear so far to be the kind that lift the level of the team and which could see us moving from also rand to contenders again

Last summer was disaster any way you look at it. We lost our two best players of the previous season and we didn't properly replace them. Apart from that we made a complete mess of the start of our season and although we signed a couple of good players, we basically lost any chance for the EPL by signing them too late.

For me this summer is a success even with RVP leaving, although it would be freaking awesome if he stayed 🙁

The Mirror can reveal the two clubs spent Tuesday night talking about a deal which could now be pushed through before the Premier League kick-off this weekend.

It is understood the clubs are very close to agreement on a fee.

The clubs are likely to find a middle ground which means it is highly possible van Persie will be on the move and will therefore not be involved in Arsenal’s opening game against Sunderland.

Just do it already.
At this stage it's like waiting to have an tooth abcess removed.

Van Persie always had a massive ego and after the season he's had he really does think he's the best thing since slice bread. I honestly believe he needs us more than we need him.

John Cross is clueless. He just adapts his stories to what the flavor of the month is. He lost his credibility when he reported Juventus offered Van Persie 190k a week AFTER TAX(lol) and that personal terms were agreed.

Man Utd are defiantly in for him but take what John Cross says with a pinch of salt.

It's funny how the nucleus of the squad we thought would win us trophies has been ripped out the last two transfer windows. Cesc, Nasri, Clichy, RVP and Song. Apparantly we now have a squad that will compete. It won't if both RVP and Song leave without further additions.

Obviously we still have Sagna and Vermaelen and Szceny but it would be interesting to see how our 3 summer signings do over the next couple of seasons.

Transfer windows are like Christmas. We anticipate and become excited and then the novelty wears off. Look at how Arshavin is perceived. He was flavour of the month for 6 months then we got bored. Giroud and Carzola are our new crazes. It won't be long before even they need replacing.

They are going to have to be up to speed fairly sharpish.
From the off we are already going to be relying on them to win us games, and it's not as if they're being introduced into a settled team.

You know how much I detest United, worse than Spurs (but that's largely because they're mostly irrelevant, got under my skin big time last season!), but I just can't get that angry in this case because I don't feel that connection to RvP. He's just never been my favourite player, and I don't think he's quite as irreplaceable as you do.

No, the people with most control other than RvP is the board. Whatever you think about Wenger, he's clearly doesn't want to sell to United. Just look at the situation last year with Nasri. There is no way I could reasonably believe that Wenger would remain as manager if he were being forced against his wishes to sell his best players year in, year out.
Particularly when he had such a huge personal involvement in their development and progression.
I have no doubt that he has a carefully calculated selling price for Van Persie.
Whoever meets it secures his signature.

He's not happy about selling van Persie, least of all to the old bastard at United, but he's realistic.

There have been a few tidbits leaking about breakdowns in Wenger's relationships with Song and Van Persie during this summer.

I'm starting to think Wenger is taking a more rigid, inflexible approach to the wishes of his players—possibly after being stung by Fabregas. Without further evidence, this is just speculation, but is it a case of 'fall in line or fuck off' now? He seems to have gone from beloved paternal figure to bridges burned quite quickly lately.

If that's the case then he clearly feels Song/RvP can be replaced easily which is good news.
