Agreed. 20, 22, 25 ... doesn't really define who we could or couldn't sign. The exact amount isn't really the issue, it's more the nitty gritty of the emotions flying around.

To me 25m could well be over the odds but with Van Persie you're getting a high risk for high reward type of player. If he leaves or stays, we could be crying into our beers or laughing for six months and then he'll get crocked and never make a difference again. Who knows?

I'd rather let him join on a free. If he have a disappointed season lets see what other options he have. At least on a free there are more clubs who will want to sign him and he might just as well go to Spain. Furthermore who knows what might happen this season? If we let him join Utd and lose the title to them by a few points? Bet you guys will kill yourselves.

Lets at least do our part and prevent him from going to United. If he goes on a free next season its his decision. At least we didn't let the wolves bite us on purpose.

Haven't we seen clubs who hold the players to ransom? Why must we always be the one who get fleeced? This is ******* different from Fabregas. Its an open market, we MUST not let him join our most hated rival. Think about it, Manure will never let any of their key players join Citeh or even us for that matter no matter how much money was involved.

Get someone else in is a must (perhaps tell Utd they can have him only if they take Chamakh as well), as things said earlier about Poldi are true. Giroud does look very promising, but Giroud/Chamakh is not what I want us to have at CF.

We're still looking better than last year. Caz + the 2 guys in front is worth more than VP gone. Much more, IMO. but if we want to keep our "we're up for it" ideas of late, there must be new additions. Sahin and someone good in place of Chamakh will have me smiling again.

What's going to happen with VP in Utd? is he jointing the long line of "it was my biggest mistake" (Hleb and the gang), or the happy few (left to win, and did)? whatever it is, he's not getting anywhere near the Henry category - "left to win towards the end, remained a gooner and a legend". In fact it's quite hard to believe how in just a few weeks he turned from hero to villain, marring his legacy so badly.

Personally, I don't see him reach new heights with Utd. And I'll be glad for that - I don't normally have ill will for leaving guys, but he's an exception. My fav player for years - fuck him. Utd to me is Spurs equivalent.

United really aren't our most hated rival. Just because a lot of fans got into football when it was us and them fighting for the league it doesn't mean the rivalry will stick forever. As much joy as we get from beating them, Spurs and Chelsea are bigger rivals. Feels worse for me when they beat us.

Edit - I guess that it's partly because there are so many of their supporters everywhere that people feel like that. But everyone hates United, their own supporters only truly care about Liverpool and City.

Perhaps it's not like selling him to spurs, but to me it's worse than any other option (Chelsea included. They mean close to nothing to me).
And it's really not for starting to follow Arsenal when Utd were the big team around. I've been around longer than that.

The 'hated enemy' thing is a sideplot, really. The bottom line is they are the team who finished directy above us. Man Utd don't want him because they want to piss us off. They want him because he's a fantastic striker.

The club cannot convince us that we want to progress (and that now means cutting the gap at the top) and at the same time strengthen the team that finished above us. Only if we invest big in other areas can we be confident that we won't be weaker without Van Persie.

best way to stick it to united would be to finish above them, which with sound re-investment of the rvp funds we could well do.

Cazorla and the return of Jack will transform our midfield. And Podolski and Giroud will ensure we get goals and share the responsibility.

I'm confident. RvP didnt exactly set teh world on fire in the last few months of the season and I feel he has peaked.

Let him go to united and not win a trophy.

It's different now with Robin than Cesc and Nasri.

We all knew Cesc was wanted to go back to Barcelona, when he hugged all of their players in the tunnel before our game against them at the Nou Camp you could see that.

As for Nasri, he was a cunt for years just that most gunners turned a blind eye, his spat with Henry on the bus, his Gallas issues, his stomping on Barton. I never get why people were surprised when Nasri started behaving like a cunt towards us but I suppose when he was here he was our cunt. Same way Chelsea fans rarely complain about Terry I suppose. He also never said a word while he was here against the club

Adebayor was a greedy mercenary who wanted to stay if I remember correctly as long as we matched the wages Ac Milan were offering but we got rid because we simply wanted to sell, he was on a long term contract at the time and by then Milan's interest had cooled off.
