did rvp know about sahin and cazorla when he decided not to sign a new contract? i would guess that wenger at least hinted that we were in for a couple of terrific players. if so, how could rvp then say that he doesn't like the direction we're headed? a lot of conjecture here, but i think rvp's actions are strange considering we're close to signing cazorld (done deal?) and sahin (probably). two top class players.

He's like most footballers. His head will be turned by big money and the possibility of success elsewhere. Why in the world does anyone think he would turn down an extra 50k a week on his last big deal out of some sort of love for Arsenal or the fans that sing his name?

I see it all over Arsenal blogs, forums and twitter. Some fans going to great lengths to try to convince themselves that he released that statement as a fan putting pressure on the club rather than out of self-interest and looking for a move. Not ony did RvP want to go, he was willing to hurt the position of the club in the process.

Be that as it may, I dont think things have gone as he planned them too. Not sure where his 'out' is at the moment.

In the absence of anyone knowing Van Persie or the absolute true motivation for his statement people are free to project their own beliefs, thoughts and prejudices.
All a matter what people choose to believe - it's all conjecture and assumption.
As for it hurting the club - we'll see.
So far we're sticking to our guns in relation to not entertaining offers that don't meet our valuation.
Regardless of his statement the transfer market is slow, he's 29 with a track record of being injured for long periods and he's only got one year left on his contract.
I would say those facts are a far bigger stumbling block to us selling him as opposed to what he has said.

Not bothered if he goes or stays really.

I can understand both Walcott and RVP in them wanting the best possible deal for themselves. Walcott has handled himself a whole lot better by shutting up and not burning any bridges though.

There are only a select few clubs in the world that can pay them what they seemingly are looking for. If none of those clubs show any serious interest - then Arsenal's wages are very competitive. Right now none of the super rich clubs, which are also of interest to the players, seem interested enough to make the necessary investment. If that continues to be the case, then I think we have a decent shot at both of them staying.

Can't really see either RVP or Walcott wanting to sign with non English clubs not named Barcelona or Real Madrid.

I genuinely believe it has little to do with money and more to do with trophies. He pretty much said that financial aspects were not discussed publicly and if he was lying Arsenal would have called him out for it particularly Hill-wood.

Well, managers aren't obliged to and have never related future purchases to their players.

But most importantly; it doesn't matter who we sign, his chances of winning something at a City, Juventus, Madrid etc. are at the absolute worse equal to what they are/would be here.

So then the next most obvious factor is either money or the rather nebulous "change of scenery". I know which way my vote falls.

Thats what I mean Pep, I said that at the time we signed Pod that he was RvP's replacement.
When he followed it up with Giroud- I thought this could get interesting if he signs a steely uncompromising midfielder like Toulalan, then he pulls this blast from the past with Carzola I don't know what to think.....What the hell is he playing at?

Doesn't matter what RvP does we're over him, he made his views clear he's peeked and will soon be injured again- he's history.

What complication would there be if he stayed? You play the best players you can in the best formation you can at any given time. We don't need to accommodate anyone, they just need to fight for the spots. Perhaps different players will be used against different teams?

More quality is more better. Nothing negative about it.

I still have a small hope that no one will want RVP £20m much plus a shed load in wages. Having him here for next season could very well mean a real push for the title.

He's travelling to training camp in Germany with the rest of the squad.
I like the way we're playing this now, the power is back with the club.
We may eventually sell him but it won't be because our hand has been forced, looks like we're working to a plan this summer.
