Your contention: Fabregas held us back.
Truth: he was comfortably our best player for the last few seasons he was at the club.
My actual contention: The decision to build a team and style around Fabregas was a disaster.
Truth: It was a fucking disaster.
Your contention: a strong team suffered by being built around Fabregas.
Truth: a weak squad prospered by being built around him.
My actual contention: He was surrounded by uncomplimentary crappier versions of himself like Denilson and Rosicky and by despicable cunts like Gallas and Hleb.
Truth: a weak squad prospered by being built around him.
No argument with you there.
I'll just ask who was responsible for the weak squad?
Your contention: after Cesc and Nasri left we were partially freed from the oppressive yoke of the dreaded tiki-taka.
Truth: we were much, much less able to play a controlled passing game under pressure in advanced positions.
My actual contention: Yes, also the addition of experienced players like Arteta and Benayoun who were used to a more direct style and a quicker tempo.
Truth: the controlled passing game was a failure, it made us slow and predicable.
Van Persie had his greatest ever season, I'm not saying this was wholly the result of our attack being speeded up and made less predictable, I'm just saying Van Persie had his greatest ever season...... These are the facts- people can come to their own conclusions.
Your contention: Fabregas on the books meant we didn't play direct.
Truth: prior to 2011 Van Persie was absent and Song could've chipped it long all day without getting a result. He didn't because we had better options.
My actual contention: Duh of course we couldn't play direct, we hardly ever scored from a set piece or a corner (which statistically accounts for 50% of goals) and this was because everything came through Fabregas.
Truth: I haven't a clue what you mean, RvP wasn't ever present but he wasn't absent.
Song could've should've would've- Stick to the facts of what did actually happen.
Your contention: We were improving last season, but now because we might sign a technical midfielder we'll be held back again.
Truth: Against the odds and utterly dependent upon a genius season from Van Persie, we managed to hack our way to the same mediocre CL-qualifying result we have for years. With Walcott being Walcott, Wilshere injured and Gervinho a wash post-ACN, it was quite obvious we lacked a high calibre creative player up front.
My actual contention: After Wengers ostrich impression and our nightmarish start with the new players settling and our improvised style benefiting RvP, only some ridiculous defending hurt us at the end, still 3rd place was our best season in a while and we exited the CL going down fighting.
Truth: After Wengers ostrich impression and our nightmarish start with the new players settling and our improvised style benefiting RvP, only some ridiculous defending hurt us at the end, still 3rd place was our best season in a while and we exited the CL going down fighting- Incidentally- note our improved fighting spirit after the ass raping of OT, we exhibited a tougher side..
If I were you Socrates- I'd take the hemlock now. 😉
My antipathy towards Carzola stems from two reasons-
- It seems that Wenger is trying to replay the Fabregas "glory years" 2007-2010 staring Santi Carzola in the role of Cesc.
2.After putting up for years with his free transfers of the calibre of Bischioff and Chamakh, and the bleatings of his followers that there's no money- Wenger finally spunks out on a player that he wants not what we need.
Poor Santi, he's tarnished by association.
