We are signing a 27 year old Spanish international widely considering the best attacking player in Spain outside of Barcelona and Madrid. I don't know what more we can do.

One player alone does not define the style of a team, if anything the player adjusts if he is an intelligent footballer. I have no doubt that the Spanish players can play a direct style given their technical superiority and excellence in other intangible attributes.

Yeah, I'm no expert on Cazorla. I've seen a bit of him over the years and know what sort of player he is, but others are much, much better informed.

End of the day, Bigs, he's a quality, experienced player - we can't have too many of them in the squad, whatever their style of play might be.

Fabregas was and is very capable of playing direct football. That we chose to adapt a more possession based approach had more to do with his defensive flaws. If anything the Barcelona team this season was more direct than they have been for half a decade.

Not particularly well, but then he didn't have the quick direct players in the side to work with.

In the way we did a few years back? As in, 4-4-2 for the majority of games and then 4-5-1 in the big games or tricky away games?

I don't see that happening myself. I think we'll stick pretty rigidly to the 3-man midfield, but I hope not.

4-4-2 would definitely look pretty tasty if our midfield were set-up something like this:

Wilshere--Song/M'Vila--Arteta/Sahin--Cazorla

I would love to see us try 4-4-2 much more. I don't quite know about how the midfield would cope but we need to have the opposition central defenders occupied with more than just Podolski/ Giroud. Having two strikers up top may also mitigate the threat we face from opposition full backs so many times.

Podolski and Giroud are direct enough, I'd say. Even Walcott perhaps.

In the absence of Wilshere, Chamberlain could play the RM position. He'd be able to offer both the traits of a playmaker and a more traditional winger there.

Or you could just play Gervinho, seeing as he is currently our best winger...

All in all if we do sign Cazorla and hopefully get Sahin on loan, we would certainly we well equipped to execute different plans based on oppsition and situation. Quite an eclectic mix of players 🙂

If RVP wasn't being such a knobend I'd love to see an RVP-Podolski front pair. Think that'd be pretty lethal.

It's frustrating. Van Persie, Giroud, Podolski and Walcott would have been a great mix of strikers to pick from.

It's not important if we sign Cazola or not (although it would be hilarious if it fell through), no the important thing is that Wenger is still trying to resurrect his doomed decrepit Fabregasian dream of a short passing Spanish style team in the Premiership.
The money aspect is also very revealing , after hearing for years the bleating of his acolytes (thought tbf not from Wenger himself and not from the board) thats theres no money- Lo and behold it appears like magic out of the piggy bank for the right "super quality" player.

I'm confused. You're having a go at those who are getting ahead of themselves without watching Cazorla play before making assumptions that Cazorla, and the football he'll bring, isn't good enough without watching him play.

The biggest reason we won't go back to the style we used to play is because our wingers have change, if we start the season with Rosicky and Arshavin on the wings you may have a point but that's not going to happen!
